We just returned from vacation and picked Finn up from the sitter. He was in a private home with lots of property to run and got lots of attention. His tail is usually curled straight up in a loop and held up proudly. Since being home (since this morning) his tail just hangs down. I've never seen it like this for more than a minute or two. Even when squatting to poop his tail is hanging down. Weird. Could he have had an injury to his hips or tail while at the sitter? Sore muscles from all the exercise? Or does he just need to get used to being home again. I'm a little concerned. I've emailed the sitter but haven't heard back yet. Anyone experience anything like this? Thanks.

I think we all learned something today! That is just one reason I love this site!

This totally reminds me of my German/Australian Shepherd. When he was young, I left him with a very good friend for a few days. His ears had been up when I dropped him off. While he was there his ears went all floppy again, and we were concerned. We were joking that he let his ears hang because he was sad that I had left him. Who knows? But a few days later they perked up again and stayed up. Maybe it really WAS because he was sad.

Isn't this syndrome what Jack (of Jennifer and Jack) recently had??

Hope Finn's tail is back to being a curly loop very soon!!

I don't know. I would love to hear from Jennifer if so.

The same thing happened with our doodle Brandy while we were on vacation (she was with us).  We did not see the injury happen, but her tail started drooping, just like your Finn.  We took her to the vet as soon as we got back from vacation and they diagnosed it as a sprain and after a few weeks, she was back to normal.  It is a very strange thing to see.  She did not appear to be in pain, but dogs can hide pain very well.  Good luck with Finn and hope his tail heals quickly.

Ro, thx so much for the article! Seems that our doodles are very susceptible to this...some of ours that are double doodles with lab and golden barely stand a chance! :0).

Tait, I hope Finn is back to normal soon and feeling better!

Hi,  Breezy hurt her tail playing with another dog and was in a great deal of pain and it was uncurled.  The vet checked it and it was not broken but she was on pain meds and slowly it curled back up.  But,  I have noticed that when she is unhappy, insecure, or just not feeling great that lil curly tail goes straight.  I read her emotions by the tail.  Sure hope Finns tail is curling back up soon. They are so special with their curly tails.  Kate and Breezy

How's Finn doing today?
Thanks for asking. He's acting normal but his tail is still sad. I noticed earlier when he went to sit down he did it gingerly like he was sore. But it snowing outside now and he was just leaping in the air to catch snowflakes and running around like a nut. So I guess he is feeling ok. My husband just came home and it's wagging a little. No curl though.
Can you post a pic? I'm really curious as to how it looks.
Happy tail & sad tail.
Another try
