I wrote about this quite a while ago. Try and search the discussions. Basically, if you want a straight leg, for the front leg point your scissors straight towards the floor and cut the leg square. ie down the front, down the back and each side. Then make your square into and octagon by taking off the corners. Repeat the process. By the time you have 16 sides around, it looks pretty round, so just tidy it up from there.
For the hind leg I trim short at the thigh and then repeat the instructions for the front legs, allowing for the different slope of the leg. ie, your scissors will not be pointed right at the floor. The goal is to make the whole leg look as straight as possible.
Make sure both the front and rear legs are blended into the body.
