Zoë has started to play a game with her water bowl- she will take a few drinks, step back, then pounce into it with both front paws. Water goes everywhere then she runs through house like a crazy dog with wet paws. Has anyone else experienced this? It's pretty hilarious, but we'd like to find a bowl that is designed to prevent this. And yes, we already tried raising bowls off the ground.
Thanks!

Google "Buddy Bowl" or better yet use our Amazon link: amazon.doodlekisses.com and search for it there ;-)

Wish I could offer suggestions on water bowls. We have been through MANY and have yet to find anything acceptable. Casey LOVES to wash his front feet in the bowl and S-P-L-A-S-H water everywhere. He thinks that is GREAT fun.  We have used everything from Buddy Bowls to buckets. Including a Drinkwell 360 water fountain. We all loved it. Casey loved it so much that he ate the top of it off within the first 24 hours!  The water bowl that uses the gallon jug on top was a big hit, too. He and Cody wrestled off the gallon jug. That was fun to clean up!  We are still using the Drinkwell 360 - it just doesn't have the nice pretty top anymore.  Good luck finding the perfect bowl!!

The buddy bowl spilled for you? mine were awesome.

You could train her not to do this.  You would have to control the water bowl.  Put it down and let her take a drink.  The second she goes to play....just calmly take it away.  Wait awhile and offer another drink....continue to do the same process.  It may take a few days but eventually she'll connect that when she plays she looses her water.

Sounds great and wish I could do that. Our good fortune is that we are blessed with 8 dogs in our home and want to have water available to all of them.  We do supervise as much as possible, and naturally he doesn't do this when being watched.  I leave water available to them when I am at work.  The other problem is - - can't raise the bowl because 4 of the other critters in the house are dachshunds - -  you know the little "no leg" creatures.  Sigh. At 10 months old, he is getting better, but still loves to swim in the water bowl.

Yes, I understand...with 8 dogs that just wouldn't work.

Using Jane's method, it was pretty easy to train FInn not to play in his water inside.  He's 3 and still loves to jump into his outside bowl sometimes.  Last week I forgot to give him the treat I usually give him after he eats his dinner and when waiting by the pantry door didn't get my attention, he tried to tip over his heavy water bowl "Can you hear me now?" LOL

I find it is such a common thing here...what can you say our doodles love water. Cally use to do this and would swim around the dinning room in the tipped over water. We got bowls that you could not tip ate petco. But she would still dig in her water bowl. I ended up trying a raised feeder from chewy.com and she no longer plays in it and has since moved to playing in the shower,.

The last line of your comment has me laughing out loud! Kona "swims" in his water dish and Owen will lie in the shower but no one has figured out playing there YET! HAHAHA

The worst part is my older dog Rosey will turn on the shower for her... Instead of high j****** this post, I may have to write a blog post about the day in the life of Cally haha!

My Sasha use to do that when she was a puppy.  She would dig in her bowl then get the zoomies around the house then go back to her bowl dig some more and zoom around it was so funny but when she was done I had to mop up.  Once I raised the bowls she could not do it :)   I think its a puppy thing.

We bought a continuous feeder, the area and amount in the drinking area if very small.  Bailey used to make a whirlpool by digging in the water bowl.  My kitchen floor was very clean.
