Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

In case some of you don't get our broadcast email to all members, I wanted to make sure you knew of the upcoming giveaway!

So...what would you do if your doodle got lost?  *Microchips and regular ID tags  would allow someone who found your dog to locate you.  But in the meantime, would you be able to locate your doodle from home?  PetHub ID Tags allows you to do just that.  Recently a member of our site blogged about the PetHub Tag that you can track with your phone.  PetHub ID tags allows someone who finds your dog to scan the tag and get the information you want them to have about your pet.  With premium subscription to their services you can also track the location where your pet's ID tag was scanned last.   Within minutes of reading her blog I contacted PetHub about getting some of these collars for our DoodleKisses.com members and sure enough I was told YES.  So if you want a really cool collar with a digitally accessible ID and the ability to track your dog’s whereabouts when their collar is scanned, stay tuned for an upcoming giveaway.  PetHub is giving us not one, but THREE collars to give away plus a one year premium subscription.  We will start the giveaway THIS week, so keep a look out for the announcement email!  For more information about how this tag works, go to PetHub's site:  http://www.pethub.com/pethub-shop-how-it-works

*Originally I misunderstood the extent of the GPS feature and thought this tag did more than it does do.  I apologize for giving out the incorrect information.  The link above will help you understand exactly what this collar does/does not do.

Oh, I'm not encouraging you to get one, lol. Your post just reminded me of that incident. I got quite a laugh picturing the two of them out gallivanting through the neighborhood, although I had the luxury of hearing it after the doodles were safe at home. I don't imagine it was as much fun for you. :)

Sue, you're not bursting bubbles - you're pointing out a potentially misleading promo from the site. Adina was very diligent in following up on her post and you have an excellent point too.

When our Bosco had gone missing one of the first things we were told is that these doodles are considered "premium" breeds and when found one has to rely on the honesty/integrity of the person who does find the dog.  On the other hand, if there was an actual GPS device, which I subsequently found can be purchased at a substantial fee (consider it along the lines of an insurance policy, however, one would have to go on the assumption that the tag remains on the pet during their loss) an owner could more readily track their missing pet with much more accuracy and certainty especially in those first crucial hours. It definitely would have helped us in our time of need. When Bosco was ultimately found - and we were contacted by someone who read his collar and our phone number on it - it was tragically too late despite all our desperate efforts to locate him earlier, including the chip company and a service calledfindtoto.com which cold called over 1000 residences in the area with detailed information.

Sue I agree, I am pretty sure I saw that on law and order special victims, a microchip with the ability to add gps, I realize that's fiction but I bet it's quite possible! That would be so awesome to always know where your dog was, I mean hopefully they'd never get lost but if they did they wouldn't be able to be stolen. That's my big fear, Max is so friendly to people, that someone might steal him. I actually had a cat stolen a few years ago (I know he was stolen because the neighbor saw some lady trying to coax him from the yard one night, and he was a big fat cat who didn't leave the yard, then two nights later he was gone). If he had gps I could have got him back.I still miss him, he was the most amazing cat. I do think the scan thing is pretty cool though, but it's also dependent on someone having a smart phone that finds him, and figuring out how to scan it?

THe person could use a smart phone or call the 800 number or go online as well, so several ways of notifying the owners.

I've been lucky lately. I've lost my dogs 3X & they've been returned from  my handy dandy luggage tags.I was parked in the parking lot with them in the camper. They've managed to get the window on my camper open, gone over to Sprouts that has automatic doors & pranced right in & searched the whole store. I was next door at Pet Boys, but as service dogs they are used to going with me to Sprouts so they went lookng for me there. The cashier called me next door. Another time, they got out of the camper I closed the door & drove off.I got home to no dogs but a phone call again from my luggage tag. I drove back in a hurry. The people were feeding them steak. I was thinking I wish I had gotten lost.  I've been really lucky with lots of good dog people. There is a gps that tells you where they are but I think its about  over $300. Puppy love from Inventing Joy & fúrry folk

I'm not sure if this would be more beneficial that the basic tags my dogs wear with our address and phone number.  If there were a GPS device, then that would be great.  (I also want GPS devices for my luggage so I can figure out where it is.)

Gps on luggage yes & cpu & cell phone & how about on kids?

We actually have a PetHub collar! In fact, we just received it in the mail yesterday! We bought the full blown collar...and it is waterproof. ( Enzo loves the pool). We also bought the premium service. And of course, we have been playing with it, to see how it all works. You fill out an online information sheet with all of your dogs info and your contact information. Vet info, Rabies #, license#, micro-chip# etc. You can make some,or all of it public, when viewed by the scanner. When someone scans the code on the collar ( and there is a telephone # as well, for those who don't have a smartphone or have the Qscanner App downloaded) the dogs picture and info come up. If you have the Premium service, the person who scanned can send the owner a msg. And their location is sent to the owner. And email is immediately sent to the owner with any info and telling you the code has been scanned and the location, via GPS . If your dog goes missing, you alert the service which then sends out alerts to surrounding Vets, Humane Societies, ASPCA, etc.
It is of course, not fool proof. But just another chance of finding the dog should she be lost. Enzo is also micro-chipped. The Premium service is minimal. $28 a yr...less if you do multiple yrs. and you don't have to buy a full collar, they sell just tags too.
Here is the Basic Service VS the Premium Service:

"Basic" - The Essentials for Everyone - Free with Every Tag!

Storage of Your Pet’s Information – put all of your pet’s data online, in one place
Linking a tag – you can link one or more of PetHub's (or PetHub's partners') ID tags to your pet's profile
24/7 Lost Pet Call Center – our staffed call center will help someone finding your pet reach you or someone you trust
Articles about Pets – PetHub.com offers over 500 searchable articles to help you raise and nurture your happy, healthy pets
"Premium" Subscription Package

Community Alert – The "Report Missing" link on your pet's profile allows you to notify nearby shelters, coffee shops and pet stores that your pet is missing. You simply profile the address of where your pet was last seen and we'll broadcast your pet's profile to them so that they can print it out and hang it up or have it handy if they see the animal (including your emergency phone numbers, critical medications, and more)
Tag Scan Notifications– when someone scans your pet’s tag, you’re automatically notified. Thought Rufus was in the backyard, but get a scan notification? Think again: Rufus is on the loose!
GPS Map – our customers’ #1 Favorite Feature is the GPS Map that is sent with the PetHub Scan Notification. Imagine how cool it will be to not just know that someone has scanned your pet’s tag, but also to see on a map where they are! We send you the GPS data we pulled from their phone.
Partner Discounts – Looking for insurance to help keep your pet protected if they go missing? We've got that and we're adding more partners!

Thanks for the info, let us know if you like it.

Adina: we, of course, are hoping, we never actually have test the "system".
The collar is a nice heavy duty buckle color. And like I mentioned, I ordered the water proof version, at no extra cost.
After the Doodle Romp yesterday, we met our son at a local place for Pizza. Enzo greeted him and she went and sat by him. I noticed him looking at the collar and waited for the questions. He instead, took out his phone and scanned her. When he saw what came up, he laughed, commented how cool it was and typed something. Both my husband's and mine phones went off signaling emails from PetHub. Sure enough a map came up with our location, and a message from my son, saying "pizza". LOL...So the 30 group of people will know instantly what to do. If not....a telephone # is also on the tag. For those with a smartphone, can simply call with no scanning involved.

Great if you have a smart phone!
