My mini GD puppy is scheduled to arrive at Laguardia airport tomorrow afternoon at 5:00pm

This storm we're having is already making me a nervous doodle parent!
He's flying from Toronto to Chicago O'Hare, lays over for two hours - then to LGA NY.

I really hope he makes it as he's a bday surprise for my wife, and her bday happens to be tomorrow also :-/

Wow! I read this thread with the morning coffee!!! I see that the most adorable puppy imaginable is home safe and sound and ready to steal your hearts and wear you out as only a doodle puppy can!!! Time to head over to Puppy Madness! Happy Birthday Mrs. L!

I think I have an ulcer from reading this. What an amazing group of people you all are. My pup comes in April, BUT I will be picking her up. I know there is a fantastic group of doodle lovers to help me do to right by my baby.Thank you all for being here.

Well I don't usually frequent this forum but I happened upon this thread and of course got caught up in following it like everybody else.
First of all way to go all of you people who genuinely cared for the puppy's well being and were willing to help out
To make sure this pup was safe. And there was a lot of you! :)

I can post my true feelings on this because I am not a DK member therefore don't care if I get flamed.
This whole issue was more about the pup being a big "surprise" than it was for this pup's true well being. (In other words, more about him than everything else in this scenario). If his wife had her heart set on a GD pup then she should have been included in everything right from the start, especially choosing the breeder and pup! IMO dogs should absolutely not be surprise birthday gifts. This still could have been a birthday gift, but not in this manner. The "gift" should have been that she was involved in the whole process.
I am even more shocked that the breeder was willing to ship the pup in these conditions, not a responsible caring breeder at all.
My hope is that in the end this pup will be in a good caring home.......

I don't think you will get any argument there.  For me personally thinking of a puppy as an object to be given as a gift makes my skin crawl and I think most other people here agree.  Plus all too often that story ends with frustration at the reality of housebreaking, whining, chewing and all the other things that puppies do and poor puppy being dumped at a shelter or something.  And breeders take advantage of this - saying things like litter available for Christmas and so on (although Christmas may be a good time to get a puppy for other reasons, like if you can more easily take off work).  But regardless, once the puppy was stuck at O'Hare that shipped had sailed and pointing fingers wouldn't help anything. Yes, Larry made a mistake but it also sounds like he has learned from it and that it was all with good intentions - and who among us has never done that?

Amen!

we put a lot of thought into oliver, and did a ton of research - it wasn't a surprise - just having him for her bday was the surprise

she knew we would eventually have him.

the "surprise" itself was just a trivial little plus - i tried to cancel the shipment & the surprise - but it was too late.

I made the best of a bad situation.

took 12 hours round trip to drive NYC to Boston in the worst driving conditions imaginable.

Oliver slept in my arms and played the whole way thru.

When we got to the airport - he was in a warm office with his new friends playing happily.

I did not come home till 330 am - i had to tell my wife what was up while i was en route to boston.

I couldnt keep up the surprise. she was miserable home alone for her bday - so i had to alleviate her concern. she agrees under the cards I was dealt - I did the only thing I could.

More details later - but again, the reason I drove to Boston was to make sure he spent as little time alone as possible - NOT FOR THE SURPRISE

So, did Larry ever get home?
We know he make it to Logan, but the drive back and the wife?
It's not over yet
We are all waiting : )
LOVE ALL YOU GUYS!!!!!!
From the bottom of my heart - thanks for all the well wishes!

Mommy, daddy, & Oliver couldn't be doing better!!!

Full story and details coming soon!!

Glad you're feeling the "love" Larry….it was pretty touch & go there for awhile there! But everyone's best interests were pulling for Oliver from the get-go and looks like he knows it!  Happy Birthday to the Mrs…and happy Valentines Day to Oliver from what appears to be the entire DK community and then some!

CANT WAIT TO SHARE OUR STORY AND OUR LIVES WITH OUR NEW DK FRIENDS!!!!!
