Has anyone's doodle had to have FHO surgery? My Goldendoodle Dazi is almost 7 months old and has been having trouble. I took her to the vet and the Dr did xrays and she has severe hip dyplasia. She is having FHO surgery on the right hip wednesday. The surgeon says this is the best thing for her instead of a full hip replacement. She is in a lot of pain and I hope this is going to help her. She will have the left side done after she has healed up from the right side. I sick with worry and wondering if anyone else has gone through this and how is the recovery for them. I hate this for my baby. I cant stand to see her in pain.

Sounds like everything is going very well.  So much to go through for such a young dog.  I know when Lucy had her knee done that steps and walking in the sand at the beach were two things that really helped her build the muscle back up.  It was a long recovery, but well worth it.

that is such good news!

This is such good news to hear especially as Boris goes for surgery to repair his shoulder on Monday and we are looking at three months recovery and rehab. We look forward to him running pain free like your Dazi.

Update on Dazi..  Dazi turned 1 year old on Jan 15th.   We are now in manners classes and she is doing very well.   I still cry everytime I see her running and playing and being pain free.   She is doing fantastic and just full of energy now.  It was a long hard road for us.   Five months ago after her second FHO surgery , I didnt know how things would be with her but she is now a pain free baby and running and playing and being the puppy she couldnt be.  Everyone she meets says what a happy baby she is.   We went and visited her surgeon the other day to say thank you and let them see one of their big success stories.  We we walked throught the door they all immediately yelled Dazi and everyone came to see her and get some love.    I just want to thank everyone again for all your concern and support when we were going through this very difficult time.   We had snow here the other day and Dazi just ran in big circles playing and loving being in the snow.  :)    I of course cried seeing her so happy and playing and no longer in any pain.

Thank you so much for this update, Jennifer! It's wonderful to hear how well Dazi is doing!

Thanks Karen.    I forgot to add that I noticed the other day that Dazi can now stand on her back legs and get things off the counter.  Something she has never been able to do before.  I couldnt help but smile when I saw her do that because that tells me her legs are getting stronger and stronger everyday.  :)

Who would ever think we would be happy about a dog counter surfing?? LOL

Jennifer, I am just reading this now, I am so glad to hear Dazi is doing so well.. the thought of her counter surfing put a smile on my face as well!!

counter surfing huh? Sounds like a perfectly happy healthy normal doodle to me!!!!
I am so glad to hear this wonderful outcome. Go Dazi but no more counter surfing. I am sure you made the surgeon's day.

So glad Dazi is pain free and enjoying life!  You're a great mommy and I totally understand why you get teary when you see Dazi getting to live life as it was meant to be!

I had a lab that was less than a year and hurt her hip. She had a TPLO-something like that, put a leveling plate and a hip . She did wonderful, better that I did. I'm old-hurt to say- and I have 2 new hips and I am fine, She will do fine. Just make sure it is a vet that believes dogs do have pain and treats.
