So I know that some of you have recently been in touch with shelters and may start taking photos. That is OH MY HECK AWESOME! I've been doing it for a while now and it's honestly one of the best parts of my week. It's so much fun, and so rewarding. Taking pictures and playing with dogs - it doesn't get better than that! It's also a great way to exercise the skills we learn in the PG group. :-) 

I wanted to start a discussion where we could add our photos of the shelter dogs we photograph, whether they are before & afters, cute dogs, or even cute pictures of ugly dogs. LOL j/k. I can't wait to see yours! I think it would be great and may help others who may be on the fence decide to take the plunge. Plus - cute dog photos. :-)

This is fantastic, Camilla! What a wonderful idea and what a difference your photos make!

I'm considering doing this, if they'll let me, at one of the local shelters as soon as my spine heals (long story) - I'm thinking about another kitty companion for Pixel so I've been browsing the local rescues at Petfinder and one of them posts absolutely dismal photos. Crossing my fingers that they'll let me in - as amateur as my photos might be, they'd certainly be better than what they're currently posting.

Jen I hope you get to do it too! Your photos are great - and you are right that the photos are always an improvement. the reality is that the people who work at most shelters don't have the time or know how to get a cute shot of each animal, but it makes a big difference. Keep us posted, I hope you get better soon!

Thank you, Camilla! (And thank you for doing this!)  I'll get better eventually - was doing agility classes with Declan, and in retrospect trying to do wind-sprints to keep up with him at my current weight was a bad idea, LOL - I do feel for the folks who work at this shelter because they've gotta be totally overwhelmed and they're constantly begging for help (understandably) and would love to do what I can.

Back when I was grooming professionally I used to spend Sundays at a local shelter grooming dogs for whom it would make a difference (that matted mess is really a Schnauzer) and they would hand each adopter a coupon for a free bath with me (dogs that come from places like this STINK - if they smell nice they have a better chance at bonding with new owner). Feeling like this is an opportunity to make a difference again, like you already are.

Oh they are so cute.  I am loving this discussion.  Our shelter's volunteer photographer has been using scarves on the dogs to spruce them up a bit lol.  Here is an example.

What a fantastic idea, BG! Love it! What a great (and simple) way to make the dog look ... I'm not sure what the right word is here ... endearing? Yeah, that'll work. I just want to bring Clifford home and snuggle him!

We especially use scarves or neckerchiefs when the rescue dogs have been clipped down because of mats and tangles...
