Introducing Katniss and Peeta, aka the Chicago fosters (note the name change!)

Everything moving smoothly for my 2 foster dogs, who we have temporarily named Katniss and Peeta.

They are extremely sweet.  They both let me brush them, trim their faces a little them and cut out mats by ears.  Both eating and drinking, although not very food driven at all at this point.  Katniss is for sure house-broken.  Peeta had one small "accident"/marking episode.  No aggression at all to our dogs over the gates. Katniss choose to sleep in the crate with door open.  Peeta going in crate for meals, but needs training to stay in longer.  My husband and I each spent half the night downstairs with them to keep an eye.

Our set-up is working great, with everyone having their own space.  It works well that our dogs do not ever go in the basement anyway, so it is not their territory.

Thanks for all the moral support!!!

I know… that is why it's fun.  They are just temporary names so why not have a little fun!?

I'm so happy these doodles are doing well. I saw a Chicago news article today about a dog owner pleading for the return of his beloved dogs after a burglary and I immediately thought of these guys. It wasn't them, but do I wonder if these doodles could've been stolen as well. Hopefully a loving owner will exhaust all resources and track them down if they are indeed missing.

Thank you for taking on these two! You are a saint to have four dogs!

Sounds good: )

What a great set up you have. Looks like they are doing well! Thanks to you and your husband!

Thanks for the update and keep 'em coming.  You did a lot of pre-planning. I am thrilled to hear that things are going so smoothly. Thank you so much for fostering these two.

You are awesome to do this! I wish they were close to New Mexico! I have 2 different adults who are ready to take them both. Hugs to you.

jenn-you should have them contact the DRC. I'm not sure what their policy is for out of state adopters, but I know it is hard for them to find qualified people who want to take 2 dogs together.

I didn't think they could ship dogs.

You were right. :)

Anyone interested in adopting a DRC dog should submit an application as the very first step.

Out of state adoptions are permitted, but commercial transport is not. They would have to travel to Chicago, pick up the dogs in person, and drive them home themselves.

Thanks Karen. I'll let them both know. I don't think they are able to travel but maybe an adoption will come up closer to them. Both are in their early 60's and retired so maybe they wouldn't even fit in the DRC requirements. Regardless, it's wonderful everyone is working so hard to help these doodles. :)
