I'm sure this is a silly question, but I'm new to dogs. I smeared some peanut butter inside Mila's puppy Kong, and she loves it... but she can't get all of it out. So can you clean those things? Seems like old peanut butter would eventually get nasty.
Also, when people talk about freezing yogurt and peanut butter in a Kong, do you fill up the whole space? Or just the edges?
Just not getting it... :)

I rinse the kongs out after use..and I will put them in the dishwasher (top rack) about once a week!
I think its personal preference on what to fill it with, and how much. If I am filling it with peanut butter or light cream cheese, I just do the edges..but, if I am using yogurt/pb combo, I will fill the entire kong…my reasoning is b/c of fat content..less fat in yogurt/pb combo….Now, if I only watched my fat content as closely!! lol!!
I don't use pb because I found it hard to get out and Max didn't really like it that much. I now make "kong stuffing" lol
I use yogurt, pumpkin, kibble, and chicken make a mixture of that and stuff the whole thing, sometimes I freeze this and sometimes I don't. He seems better able to clean the whole thing out.
If they don't get it all out you can get a really small brush from the dollar store to wash them and they can go in the dishwasher.
Oh and sometimes instead of chicken I use tuna or salmon and I do use the kongs to give him his whole meal rather than just as a treat.
I clean mine with baby bottle brushes. I also stick them in the dishwasher every night that I start it.
I like yogurt and PB2 (a type of peanut butter). I also like to use kibble in it and freeze it with some yogurt. My quick and easy way of filling them is putting the Orijen or Fromm treats in the bottom of them and sticking True-Chew tender jerky strips in there to keep the treats in and it takes them a LONG time to get everything out! Cally has two kongs that way one is always stuffed or being washed!
I also have two but I use both to give him his meals in so I would like to get two more.
Not a silly question at all... ;) I looked at ours for about a week before I finally just decided to go for it. We still have the small Kongs, and we need to invest in larger ones. Anyway, we put a few pieces of kibble in the bottom and then fill them completely with nonfat plain yogurt. We usually top it off with a few more pieces of kibble and then freeze it overnight. We leave them in their pens while we are at work. We use a toothbrush to wash them after every use and put them in the dishwasher on the weekends.
My puppy really doesn't get too messy from the Kong. A little residue on his beard. Other than that sometimes a little on his mat where he eats it. The chicken wet food makes more of a mess on the mat than the other foods I put in the Kong. Actually I was surprised that the Kong wasn't too messy. That may depend on the dog also.
We rinse it out and use the dishwasher as well.
We stuff it with kibble, freezes dried liver treats and a plug of peanut butter in the end....then we fill it with water and freeze it. It lasts for about 2 hours or more.
