I think my biggest problem is not knowing how to calibrate my monitor. I have the Spyder 4 calibration thingy but I still don't get what I see when I print. I have two different color printers but both are Epson. One is a wide format older one but is my go to printer. When it comes to printers there just really isn't a lot of good information on getting them in sync with the monitor. I am always tweeking around the printer settings and wasting a ton of photo paper trying to get the printed photo that looks the best. I really wish I had someone who could come in and set it all up for me...you, as I recall, have your husband who did it??? Lucky, lucky!!
Nancie - it must have been someone else because I don't even own a printer. I use professional photo labs. I like large prints so it doesn't make sense for me to buy a large format printer, and ink to go with it. Especially when you consider the fact that calibrating your printer to match your display is notoriously difficult. Nope, I just order from WHCC or Millers. Affordable, free 2 day shipping, easy. :-)
Hummmm, I wonder how I got that so wrong? ha ha So then, when you look at your monitor how do you know you have the colors right? I like what I see on my monitor but would be afraid to send it in to a company and get something totally off. When you send in your order what type of files do you send? Are they JPEG or TIFF with full resolution? What would a typical order invoice look like if you were put an order in? Am I making any sense??? What all do they require from you?
Nancie - I calibrated my monitor the same way as you, with a mouse type device. Once that was done I was done. I just submit full resolution jpegs to the company via their ordering software (it's called ROES) and that is it. They have my card on file, my address, and that is all they need aside from the image file. Also, both of the companies I use send me free test prints when I signed up so I could make the sure the calibration was right, up to 5 images.
I always check "no additional color corrections" in the options box before checking out because I want my photos to look exactly as I saw them on my computer. It actually makes them cheaper that way as well. I send all in sRGB. It's really very easy to use. And very straight forward.
Thanks Camilla. I have book marked the two companies to use in the future!
Camilla, My 6D is set on RGB...I have had this conversation with Hayley numerous times. Would I reset it to sRGB on my camera or is this just done in PS. Probably dumb question :)
When you say it's set to RGB... do you mean sRGB? adobeRGB?
The changes I made were in camera RAW, to sRGB. All of my photos are now in that profile by default.
I don't know....I just know when I use textures, I have to go into assign profile in PS and change my photo to sRGB. I just want it to be in that format to begin with and don't know where I am supposed to be making the changes.
Here is a link I found and it says if you edit, your camera should be in RGB

Hm. I don't think I ever changed it in camera - but on the bottom of the camera RAW panel there is a profile you can set to sRGB.
It says if you AREN'T editing the photos in photoshop or lightroom.
If you shoot RAW, the color space in the camera doesn't matter at all. It's what your editing program is set to use.
Thanks for the clarity! I didn't know that it was due to shooting in RAW, but that makes sense.
