"This dog has GOT to get trained!
(There might have been some more colorful thoughts too… but this is a family site!)
There is nothing more scary than your beloved dog being in danger and STILL not paying attention to you when you frantically call him. We were really scared for Rosco. He was chasing this little chihuahua and NOTHING we did could make him stop. Where he ran was only determined by where this little dog ran. So they all ran across a busy street THREE times before the little dog ran into his house with Rosco hot on his heels. Us humans were just a distraction from his chase game. Cars? Danger? Ha! There’s another dog to chase!
Clark was now more motivated than ever to make sure our dogs were trained. It really had been a matter of life and death… and we were lucky. Not trained. Lucky.
We are doing a live webinar on dog training this coming Sunday evening with an internationally known dog trainer. Doodle Kisses Spring Training 2014! It will be Sunday evening May 26 25 (oops!) at 6:30 PST (9:30 Eastern). It will be live and you can ask questions, give feedback, or just make snide remarks. We want for you to fix any dog training problems you might have. This webinar will get you started.
We recently ran a survey about dog training and, not surprisingly, a good recall was also your biggest concern. The “magic wand” dog training issue you wanted to cure was:
“Come! 100% of the time.”, Better recall!”, “Instant recall”, “A consistent and reliable "come" response”, “100% reliable COME!”... it goes on and on.
Over the next couple of days we will reveal the top dog training problems you guys reported in your hundreds of responses to our training survey.
Do two things today:
1) Block off the time Sunday night to join us all in a big webinar about dog training with a real expert.
2) Tell us your horror stories about what has happened to you because of your dog not coming when called.
I’ll tell you the next biggest training problem from our survey results tomorrow,
Adina
PS. Why do “horror stories” and “near misses” make such good stories after all the excitement has died down? Let’s hear yours. :-)

I could not find a link for the webinar? How do I sign up?
So relieved both dogs were ok. My 'come when I feel like it doodle' did a similar move on me. I take all my dogs to work with me and our company is next to a not very busy road, but the cars that do travel it are usually speeding. One day as we were leaving for home, Watson, who has always been so good about going right to the car, spotted a jogger going up the road. Being the must greet everybody dog that he is, before I knew it he was making his doodle dash for the runner. I somehow kept from screaming and kept calling, with a happy tone, and he suddenly came back to me. ( He is mortified if I scold him, so I knew I could not sound upset.) He had run right out into the middle of the road and would not have had a chance if a speeding car had been coming. My body shook the whole ride home as I kept thinking what could have happened. I vowed I would keep him on a leash until he came to me without a second of hesitation. He is still on a leash! Distractions are definitely his downfall and I just don't know how to get him to ignore them.
Recall is sooooo important and one of the first commands I teach a dog. I train service dogs, so teaching them to ignore all other dogs and other distractions such as squirrels is a big help when it comes to keeping them from bolting......but it is not guaranteed as I just recently found out with my own dog..........a squirrel got the better of her! I don't know what that darn squirrel "said" to her, but it made her break away from me........LOL wish I could speak "squirrel"!

So glad everyone was ok! I will try my best to attend Sunday evening! Thank you for hosting this :)
So scary! Glad you are both okay.
Trav has a good recall, but I'm sure it wouldn't work if he was off leash and any small animal ran across his path. He is very prey driven, and everything but the thrill of the chase just vanishes from his brain.
This was his "punishment."
To answer some of the questions our members have asked:
1) We will give you a link to the webinar, and that is how you'll know where to go to find it :-) Probably tomorrow morning. In the meantime, here is Doggy Dan's website: http://doggydan.com/
2) There will be a replay of the webinar for those who can't make the live broadcast, but you'll have to sign up for the live event to have access to the replay.
And finally, besides recall, we'll talk with Doggy Dan about other issues you told us you're concerned about:
INSIDE the other dog's house...??!! Wow, Rosco--you are a dedicated chaser!
Cute pic. :)
Our Doodles have a little sister that was a rescue. She is a purebred Mutt! (I've had her DNA tested twice!) But she has a nose for prey! With her, if she is hot on the scent of a squirrel she totally has blinders on and deaf ears! If she could climb the tree, she would! I'm grateful the boys don't follor her and that they do have great recall. But I know other dogs are like Harriet and nothing stops them! I have even considered putting a shock collar on her, but just can't bring myself to that. She needs to hear us and hustle her little fanny back home! I'm putting Sunday night on my calendar. (Hope I can stay up that late! Eastern time - LOL)
I'm so excited about the webinar. Looking forward to the info so I can sign up/
