So today one of my neighbors came over and I was showing off the final backyard makeover. She asked where the dogs go to the potty because they do not on the synthetic lawn. I motioned to the side yard and she said "I don't see any poop there!" And I said that's because I pick up after each time they go. She looked at me like I had two heads. I said it wasn't that hard, they go poo 2x a day: mid morning and late at night. That make her look at me like I was even stranger than before.

Maybe I am weird but I always pick up poo mainly because I don't want it lying around and them stepping in it or flies but also because I know if the dogs are regulating ok and if there is a problem.

So am I a nut?

No I don't think you're weird at all.  We always walk our dogs, so I have to pick up each time, but I can't imagine having poop just sitting out in the yard for the dogs or others to step in.

Most of the time I pick up once a day, sometimes I will skip a day.  I don't like poop all over plus I know it attracts rodents.  You are NOT crazy !!!  LOL

If you are a nut, then so am I. The dogs don't go out without us, so it's no problem.  We each keep a roll of poo bags in jacket pockets - but the weather got warm, so hubby hung one of those little dispensers on the fence so the bags are always handy.

That would have been a good Father's Day present!

We pick up often when we are home and at least every other day if we are at work, but I had the dog sitter pick up on those days if they went during her stay. Bella eats poop so it became an absolute-as-soon-as-deposited duty around here. We have a small trash can with tight lid, lined with a trash bag, by the shovel and rake and it goes out with the trash once a week. Besides, we love our well manicured yard and garden and love sitting out back enjoying how pretty it is.....plops of dog doo doo is very unattractive to me and distracts from the beauty of it, to me. But then maybe I'm weird.

We are lucky that Q's routine is to go on his morning walk when we are right there to pick it up, but if he goes in our yard, it's in the wooded area far enough from the house and neighbors that we don't see/smell anything. If it isn't it gets picked up. But for our walks, every jacket my husband and I own has a store of plastic bags in one pocket and kibble treats in the other!

No fenced yard here...just woods...so Bailey is walked several times a day and I always pick up!  I carry that full bag as a badge of honor so that the neighbors see that we do not leave poop lying around!  I remember when I was in college and living in an apartment, I had a neighbor who emptied his cat box in the bushes right outside my living room window....the smell was horrible!!!!!!  Can't imagine anyone not cleaning the yard on a daily basis.

Oh dear!

Your badge of honor comment is how I feel sometimes, too. It's proof that I pick up after my dog.

When I have Libby I pick up on our walks as soon as she goes, and at home I know her mom picks up every day.  Who would want to leave it?  Nasty!

No Jenn - as you can see from all the comments you are in good company!  I pick up right away too.  In the a.m., I grab a quick cup of coffee and go out with the boys.  I like to walk around the yard and look at my flowers and plants while they are doing their business and then I pick up after them and we go sit on the patio, brush heads and tails and think about making breakfast.  Can you tell I am retired and loving it!  Over the years, I have found remnants of birds or rabbits that did not survive the hawk or owl hunt and when we have birds nesting, there is often a bull snake hanging out in the garden.  I do not want any surprises and I certainly do not want to be the one who steps is dog do!

I do it also.  We enjoy our backyard and I don't want to have to worry about stepping in stuff or stinky odors.
