Messy Drinker

I've been around here since almost the beginning and I honestly do not believe that we have had this discussion previously.  If we have I apologize in advance!  On FB Doodle Family we have what is referred to as Tongue out Tuesdays where everyone posts photos of the tongue hanging out.  As I've was just sitting here thinking about this it occurred to me that possibly the size of the tongue has something to do with how messy they are when they drink.  My Lucy and Sophie just had normal size tongues and I never really noticed them too much just hanging out.  Neither were/are messy drinkers.  AnnaBelle on the other hand has one of these tongues where I've always said if she grows into her tongue she is going to be a horse.  She is the messiest drinker I've ever seen.  She is very noisy and she leaves a trail 1/2 way through the house every time she drinks.  Anyone have any thoughts on my theory?  I have on occasion thought it was the beard but we had a foster that was messy and he basically had no beard at all.

Interesting discussion! Oscar is our super messy, loud-slurping drinker. He has a really long tongue, too, and immerses half his mug in the water bowl when he drinks. I recently got a Waterhog mat to absorb the water that falls out of his mouth after drinking, and we keep a rag nearby to wipe up the excess from his face. He's learned to just stand and wait after he drinks till someone comes and wipes his face, but he'll only wait so long before trotting off (there isn't always someone nearby to do the chore). Lucy, OTOH, is dainty and delicate in everything she does and you wouldn't know she's just had a drink. She has a small tongue, BTW.

Guinness is a quiet, non-messy little drinker....and he has a tiny tongue.  Murph is a loud, very messy drinker who walks away from the dish with water still pouring out of his mouth, trails it across the kitchen floor and then goes into the living room to wipe his mouth on the white sofa.  His tongue is very large.  Maybe size does matter....or else it's just because Guinness is the "goody-goody" Doodle and Murph is the "bad boy" who does everything in a big way.

Murph and Quincy went to the same school of water drinking - walk away and let it pour all over!  He also uses the couch to wipe his mouth, or else the rug in the bedroom, or the side of the bed...I usually have a big beach towel spread out in front of his bowl, very chic decor...

This sounds like another discussion...  Lucy is my mouth wiper on the sofa.  After she eats she always runs up and down the side of the sofa wiping her mouth.  No, not AnnaBelle, not even after she drinks and is soaking wet, doesn't take the time to stop and wipe her mouth she has too many other things to do!

my favorite is when he puts the side of his mouth to the rug and runs around in 

circles, wiping his muzzle.  have to get a video one of these days.

After he eats, JD will get his muzzle soaking wet drinking water and then use it as a "wet mop" to get all the little pieces of homemade food that are stuck to the inside of his food bowl. Sometimes he goes back and forth between the two bowls a couple of times. It's hilarious.

OK, now that is funny.  However, there is no way now I'm ever bringing AnnaBelle to meet JD!

LOL, but think about it. With the bowls right next to each other, all the water drips into the food bowl and not on your floors! :)

The water bowl in the kitchen is actually two big bowls set inside the bottom half of the neater feeder to catch any spills.  This is set on top of a 3x5 rug with rug runners on each side of it going in each direction and she still gets it all over the place.

Of course, then you do have little bits of chicken and sweet potatoes stuck in the beard. That they wipe off on your furniture.

Luna has no beard and an average sized tongue and is a messy drinker :p

I think its just the lack of lips that can surround the water as they drink.  There's nothing to catch the water so it splashes out the sides.

Brisby and pickles are neat drinkers. Jake is messy and after he drinks he finds the closest human to wipe his beard on. :)
