I personally would not leave a dog in a hotel in a crate alone. Many things are stolen from hotel rooms and I'm guessing if someone would steel something like a laptop they would have no problem steeling a doodle. Additionally I'm guessing all the strange noises would just keep him barking the entire time you are gone and disrupt others vacations.
I take Charlie to the Oregon coast all of the time, but we rent homes. If he's alone in the house, he's crated. I don't worry about him too much-- he really doesn't make noise, and even if he decided to, it would be hard for the neighbors to hear him. I try to pick the quietest spot in the house for his crate.
I wouldn't leave him in a hotel room in a crate-- too many chances for someone else to enter (housekeeping), for disturbances to come from the adjacent rooms, and for him to disturb someone else.
We spent our day on the Oregon coast yesterday!
I agree with everyone else, when we've traveled and used hotel rooms we never leave the dogs unattended for safety and consideration of others purposes.
No, not alone in a hotel room. If you can't take him with you to the wild animal game park, then get someone to stay with him in the hotel room. Sometimes animal centers have agreements that you can leave a pet with them for a partial day and then they have other dogs to play with and don't feel deserted. Do you use animal day care? You need to check it out ahead of time, but many will take an animal while his family is doing some other activity.
