Hi there,

Jackson is 10 weeks old. Everyone says they don't like to pee in their crates, but he doesn't seem to mind. He normally holds it, but he's had a few accidents in there. Is that normal? Will he stop? Or maybe he's just a messy dog and doesn't mind it?

Also, he sometimes goes out and pees, then goes again on the carpet just a few minutes later. It's almost like he didn't empty his bladder the first time. Any tips?

The good news is he's pooping outside, so it's just the pee we have to figure out :)

Thanks so much!

At 10 weeks old, he is still very young. And when Ya gotta go...ya gotta go! It also appears he's a " double pee'er". After he has gone outdoors, keep him out, so he can go again. My girl Enzo was like this and outgrew it pretty quickly.

Also, make sure that your crate is not too large.  If it is, often the dog will designate an area as a potty area.  Make double sure you have cleaned the crate with a product designed to get rid of scent so that you don't get a habit going.

Is it possible Jackson needs to go out more frequently than you're taking him? Also, you may want to have his vet check for a UTI.

Thanks, everyone. I realized that he's been peeing in there at night for three nights, which is the exact amount of time I've allowed him to "cry it out" rather than laying next to the crate until he falls asleep. Could he be doing it because he's nervous? I take him out right before putting him in and before that he was doing fine for 5 hours, before barking for me to let him out. His only other crate accidents have been during the day when we're a little late returning home to let him out. He's going to the vet tomorrow, so I'll talk to him too.
