Every doodle is different so it is hard to tell when they might go through the coat change. I think they can even do it in stages. Beowoof went through a change at 10 months and then started another stage at 13 months that is ongoing. I've just kept him clipped short in hopes that this too shall pass. LOL! With mixed breeds it's hard to predict what will happen.
A great resource for coat questions is the Doodle Grooming group:

There is a lot of information in that group and tons of posts with the same questions as yours. Hang in there! Otis is such a doll!
Here is your pic:
Beowoof has a tightly curled poodle coat. When he was a pup it was shaggy and I was so worried he would have no curls. Lol! Be careful what you wish for. :-)
I am still trying to learn how to groom him myself. I groom all four of my miniature schnauzers. (I've been doing the schnauzer cut for 14 years so it's muscle memory at this point.) For some reason I have a tough time with Beowoof's curls. I can trim his ears, face, tail and head myself but have trouble with his body and legs. The groomer I take him to brushes him out, bathes him and then gives him a blow out to get his hair fluffy rather than curly. Then she can trim him. He is such a sweetheart about it and is super patient. One day I will conquer my curly dog fears!
OMD, what an adorable pup! My experience tells me that if they shed as little puppies, it won't go away. Some puppies who don't shed when little, shed at the coat change and pretty much not after that. My son's doodle turned a year old in December and just began shedding. Sadly, we don't think it will be temporary, but we can always hope. One of my doodles doesn't shed and one sheds as much as a retriever.
Hmmm glitch in the posting.
And at a year:He had one very bad haircut where they cut off his facial furnishings and shaved his ears. He is still growing out some but I don't know if he will keep the scruffy look. His coat has lots of waves and is poodle thick. So far he doesn't mat, but Iike I said, he just began shedding.
We have had two standard F1 goldendoodles and neither one of them shed and neither one of them had a coat change. With our first goldendoodle, Zak, we had no idea what a goldendoodle was. We didn't know about the coat types, shedding or anything. We were so surprised that there was no shedding and then we didn't realize that her coat would keep growing unless we clipped her. Then, with some research, we realized that if a dog doesn't shed, she needs to be clipped - how dumb were we???? She died at the age of five of EPI and then we got Myla. I lived on this site while waiting for her and then learned about the coat types, matting, shedding etc. I was prepared to have a coat change but again, we never had one. Myla's coat has always been soft and wavy and when cut short, more curly. She has never shed but does mat, mostly on her underarms and belly when her coat is longer. Because she does a lot of swimming and goes snowshoeing quite regularly, we clip her quite short so that we don't have to deal with the mats as she does not like being brushed...at all.. This is the beauty of doodles - they are all different!!!! Have fun!!!!
