But of course, you cant take your dog anywhere until it is past 4 months and has had all its shots and vetting.  We stayed in the Sheraton as soon as Spud was old enough. Good times

I dont blame you. I wouldnt want to vacation without my dog either.

The last few years we have stayed in a rented cabin in Upstate New York and it was wonderful.  So, sometimes, I think renting a house is best

there are more out there. They seem to come and go.   If you watch the ads, they give you hints to other links.

Sad that Takefido is no longer.

Joanne my husband and I are looking to go upstate as well with our doodle! do you remember where u stayed? we are planning on going snowmobiling so he will be home at the cabin for a bit, this would be my first trip with him I hope he likes it!

Chels,

There are a million cabins all around upstate. Most are just beautiful and full of winter fun.

I LOVE NY

We stay at Lake at a relative's home in Lake Chautuaqua and they rent theirs, like everyone else up  there, all winter long.

The websites are endless.   I would look into doing a search for Upstate NY SKI Cabins. You also have Fingerlake Rentals, etc.   Along the highway, you see endless lakes and ski resort exits.  The travel there is brutal though in the winter.  You never hear them balk at 24-36 inches of snow at a time as that is just normal.

If I find the phone number to where we stay, she does rent all year and I will message you

Watch your dog near the lake especially on the frozen lake.

A discussion from a few years ago on our first visit to the cabin

Hi there! I'm not sure where exactly you are looking to travel but I live in Michigan and on the west coast of Michigan is a town called Ludington and they are pretty dog friendly, we took Loki there and had. Good time, the state park beach there isn't dog friendly but there are a few beaches if you look around also the town is pretty dog friendly, told time all around.

We go to Flagler Beach in FL simply because the beach there is dog friendly.  The town is also fairly friendly as well with many of the restaurants allowing dogs on their outdoor patios.  We rent a condo through vacationrentals.com.  There are many other vacation rental sights as well like VRBO.com or Homeaway.com and they have a filter for pet friendly.  I also believe that Savannah GA is very pet friendly.  We were there in Dec and there were lots of dogs.  Cape San Blas in FL is also very pet friendly from what I've read.  Haven't been there though.  As far as Hotels, Red Roofs and La Quinta's are normally pet friendly among others.  However, I noted on our last trip that many owners are not being responsible and picking up after their pets.  This makes me so mad because if people don't start being responsible we are going to loose our rights to travel with our pets.  I can remember 15 years or so ago we were moving from CT to FL and we had a really hard time finding a hotel in CT that would allow our small dog.  I would also like to add, please don't ever leave your dog in a hotel room regardless.  There are too many times that hotels give out the wrong key or a maid comes in or something and your dog could escape.  I know someone this happened to.

There is a place called Barkwells in Asheville NC. We visited it a few years ago, but haven't stayed there as one of my dogs doesn't travel well. It has several fenced acres for the dogs and beautiful cabins to stay in. Asheville is a great city and there are many things to do in that area. Check their website for more info and photos.

I would say to check out a beach.  There are many dog friendly beaches and usually cabins you can rent on the beach or nearby.  Parks are rather picky about who can go there (for obvious reasons).   My dogs love the beach and a day on the beach is their favorite thing to do.  Harpo is staying with some friends next week while we go to Arizona and it will be the first time he has ever stayed away from home or away from us.  We take the dogs everywhere with us.  Usually we drive so we can have them with us.  When we have stayed in a hotel or motel and need to go out for the day or evening, we get a pet sitter (usually a member of the family) to come and stay with them.  They have never been left in a car or room alone.  Our pets are spoiled?  Maybe so, but so are we.
