In the first 4-5 weeks after he was born, Ace was "doodley". Then all of a sudden, he changed. His face became more retriever like and his body, well in some parts it's curly, in other parts it's way and in other parts it's fuzzy. He is the only puppy out of nine in his litter that looks like this. The funny thing is that a couple of the puppies that looked more retriever like early on, now look very "doodley".

I'm not sure what to make of Ace's look. His head looks like a retriever, but his body looks more like a doodle. It'll be interesting to see what he ends up looking like.

Pictures attached. In the third picture, I attempted to give him a blow out. :-) Anyone have a similar doodle? I've not come across pictures of doodles that really resemble Ace.

Okay, so only one of the three pictures I uploaded. The first one is the attempted blow out. I'm attempting to upload a couple more.

Hi!  This discussion caught my eye because my pup hasn't found his doodle yet - LOL....Ace is a beautiful boy - He looked like a cuddly stuffed animal as a tiny baby; SO precious!  Now, in your 3rd photo I can see more of a retriever look in his face like you said....To me, he's looking more mature & serious - very handsome.  I've been told now over & over that the coat changes continually & that we wont know for about 1 year...an interesting process to see such rapid change!

I think he's adorable!

Looks like he might be a fleece coat?

At least with Gracie, I was told that she will be easy to groom. So there are benefits to having a more retrieverish look. :)

Good point about the grooming, Lyndy....I've heard that too.
