So we had to get pickles a bigger crate because a large wasn't cutting it anymore. He was in a large plastic crate but I'm changing over to wire. So I got him an XL wire one. However, the flooring moves around a lot and he makes a lot of noise in it. Soooo, I put a thick pillow type mat in it. He was fine for a few days but when I went to get him tonight after the doodles after dinner crate rest time (so they don't throw up from playing directly after dinner) Pickles shredded the entire pillow! I hoping he didn't ingest any of it and I'm going to have to watch him carefully for a few day. But now what do I do about the crate floor? If there is nothing on it, he makes sooo much noise I won't be able to sleep.
Help!

Ok I'm just going to try it without anything tonight. Maybe it won't be so loud.

Both of our doodles hated anything on the floor of their wire crate. I tried a dog bed, then a blanket, then a towel, then nothing. They kicked it out of their way. I hope nothing works for you. Sleep well!

What we do with our wire crates is put a towel between the crate bottom and the pull-out tray. Works great at muffling the noise and there's no need for a crate mat (I really think the doodles prefer it that way).

What a great idea.  My guys went through a stage of destroying crate mats too.  I used towels at the bottom of the crate and for some reason they didn't destroy them, but I think this idea sounds even better.

Thank you! I'll try it tonight. It was a rough night last night. I've got to get the dogs some excercise too. My little dude (son) has been sick the last few days so the boys haven't been excercised as much.
It's been a while, but I think I used at least a couple layers of towels to muffle the noise.

You could use a small rubber backed rug there too.  As long as it isn't a loopy rug...Boca liked to pull out the carpet fibers on those.

I'll try something like that. I haven't had much sleep the last two nights. Pickles keeps raking his nails on the plain plaśtic flooring and he's keeping me up.

Is there a way you can not crate her at night?  Spud was really restless as a puppy in the crate.  He would pant real loud and slam around in there. Against my husband's wishes ( he was gone a lot back then traveling) I just let him sleep in his favorite corner. He rested, I rested and all was well.

I closed the bedroom door. I realize this is not possible for those chewers but maybe Pickles and you would find comfort

Have you considered moving the crate to an area where you won't hear it? It sounds like its in your bedroom. I know neither my husband nor I would like listening to all the movement of the dogs in their crates at night (not that we use crates at night).

That's what I was going to suggest also, Debb.

We used a rubber-backed rugs.   Some fit the crate exactly and I loved that about  using rugs.  You can wash them too.

I think though, these could be shredded also, and even unravel but you may just be able to place that rug between the crate bottom and the pull-out tray like mentioned above.
