That's very strange - we've had that happen a couple times when Angus was having tummy issues. He would whine and then I would take him out and he had to poo a lot and then came back in. Is there a possible medical issue going on that might account for this? If not, I'd recommend a TON of exercise during the day (we like doggie daycare for this), so that he's really super tired when he gets home. Angus is usually a restless sleeper, but on days where he goes to daycare, he is out for the night until the morning. Sorry you're having a tough time. I hope you figure out the issue soon! So hard to be exhausted all the time :(
I think I'm in the minority on this forum, but we crate our dog at night - her crate is in the mud room, covered with a blanket, and we turn out the lights and shut the doors to the mudroom as soon as she's crated at 9pm. Our trainer told us three days after we brought Ginger home to put her crate where we couldn't hear her barking and ignore everything after lights out. So unless Cooper seems ill, I'd ignore it. If the noise bothers you and you have a big enough house, move Cooper's pen farther from your bedroom.
