So I took Addie to the place where she was groomed last and where I liked the way she was groomed. But the groomer had left and so I had another. I gave her detailed written instructions. One thing I asked, and we discussed it, was to have the hair on Addie's ears cut to follow the leather, since they had always been cut straight across the bottom. I was curious to see what she would look like. I also asked that she be cut to 2" overall. I asked the groomer to leave about 1.5 inches of hair on her ears. I guess I have a different measurement system, because it looks like she left about 1.5 mm. I didn't know Addie's ears were so small!. Oh well, hair grows back and she is a cutie. It will probably also be cooler for her this summer.

Here are before and after pictures.

I always have Paddy's ears trimmed up to the leather. I don't think doodles should look like spaniels -- but that's just me.

I also just had him shaved down to a fuzz for the summer, leaving his doodle puff on his head intact and his tail trimmed but longish. I call it his sheared alpaca look, LOL. But he is much, much more comfortable since his coat is extremely dense.

Addie looks cute as pie. I wouldn't change a thing!

It does look like Addie and Paddy have the same cut. Paddy is a handsome boy, and he looks a bit fleecier than my girl. He also looks like a pro athlete. Do you do Agility with him?

Yes. He is both an agility competitor and a therapy dog. The folks we visit for therapy prefer him fuzzier but he's more comfortable this way in hot weather. I think his cut is actually shorter than Addie's -- you can see his pink skin showing through. I would call this cut too short, but my groomer has a standard poodle and she used a closer clip than we would normally use on a doodle. NBD for me -- just hope to keep him out of much sun until he has a bit more fuzz!

Since Paddy likes to swim, too, the close cut is preferable. His poodle hair doesn't dry fast or well, partially because he seems to have a golden retriever undercoat, so taking most of the coat off in the summertime makes a lot of sense for us.

It is a good short hair cut but not what you described! Did she give you an explanation as to way she cut it as short as she did? If you can get her to understand just how long you want Addie's hair, you may have a good groomer? One good thing is that Addie will not have to go to the groomer for awhile? You have the right attitude.

Linda,
I had Addie groomed where she goes to doggy day care and the groomer was not there when I picked her up. It was a crazy day because I had a baby shower at my house for my daughter, as well as having all my family from out of town staying at my house. So Addie went to day care because she is very excitable and otherwise would have been in her crate a good part of the day.

I think her groom was good, except for her ears, even if it was shorter than I asked. Her previous groom was 2 months before, so I think this one will last until Sept. With my daughter expecting a little girl the beginning of July, Addie's shorter coat will take away a little stress since she should be easier to brush and comb.

Wow!  If I could look that much skinnier after grooming I would get groomed myself!!  She does look adorable both ways!  I love her coloring.  Best wishes with the new human baby in the family!!!

Thank you, Jane.

Yes, it looks like she missed one of your line items in the instructions. Addie is awfully cute, regardless!

He looks cute, but I agree with you that his ears are cut a bit short for the 'doodle' look.
