We got one last Summer because our Murphy seemed to mind the heat. The problem is he loves to move around....changing positions several times a night. So he might start out on the mat, but within an hour he was on the move. He never used it during the day because he just follows me to whatever room I'm in.
I got it last year. It really did stay much cooler than the tile floors or ambient room temperature. My dog just wouldn't lay on it. Not sure why. Works for humans too. My husband took to keeping it in his car. :)
I have had 2. One was similar to a chillow and the other one was self contained, no water added. Both lasted about 6-8 months. I ended up using them for me more than the dog.
Why do I think that Quincy would end up chewing on it?
Thanks for the feedback on the Gel Mat. I think I will probably give it a try.
Trixie probably wont lie on it though- LOL...But will see. She has always been a very hot doodle. But she doesnt like laying on things usually. She does not like dog beds at all. Does not like pillows at night- but loves them when watching TV or chewing a bone
Let us know Pam, how Trixie likes it. Im just curious. My two wouldnt lay on it unless it was in bed with us as thats where they are all night. Hope it helps.
I bought the mat on Sunday. I showed it to Trixie ...whis a scaredy cat. And she wasnt afraid of it- so that was a good start. Yesterday was our 1st hot day & I did get her to lie on it for about 15 minutes after she came in from outside. I do think she liked it as she was laying on her side & relaxed. I will see if she lays on it at all today.
I think in the long run when she realizes that it does help cool her off- she will use it.
