Lazy puppy?

[Puppy Madness]

Ember is 12 weeks old, I have had her for two weeks now. She is the laziest puppy I have ever seen! At first I thought it would just take a few days for her to warm up to us and she'd liven up a bit but it's been two weeks and still all she wants to do is lay around and sleep. Is this normal for a puppy at this age? Also she HATES being outside. When we go out to potty, she tries to run back to the door and I have to put her on a leash and force her to walk around the yard until she does her business. It's the same way when I try to take her for walks, she just lays down and refuses to walk. Every puppy I have ever been around has been playful and full of energy so I'm just not sure how normal this is.

Hard to imagine a puppy that only wants to sleep all the time. Have you had her to the vet to be checked out?

I'm assuming you took her to the vet shortly after getting her.

Are poops normal? And is she eating well?

I would definitely head back to the vet if it's been 2 weeks of lethargic behavior. Little tiny puppies do a lot of sleeping, but they also want to play after naps, so I'd get some bloodwork done or something. Pain can cause lethargy, so if she has a UTI or bladder infection or something maybe it's uncomfortable? Check with your vet...

So glad to hear Ember has perked up. What a relief it must be to you. As for her being laid back, Hurley has always been laid back. He liked to sleep in.

Loki, my older doodle, sounds just like what you described above! After a little bit he started to like walks and being outside but he would still rather just lay around outside than actually go anywhere. Everything else hasn't changed at all. I took him to the vet pretty frequently and he was perfectly fine just super super mellow. :)

I know what you mean, when I first brought Loki home my whole family thought something was wrong with him and when they see him after not having seen him for a while they get all worried again because all he wants to do is snuggle or lay by you. I think I mentioned it in another post but calm and mellow doodles remind me of snuffy from Seseame Street, very "ho-hum". :) I had never seen a puppy that mellow and still haven't run into any little ones that mellow, my second doodle is a puppy/land shark on steroids so they balance each other out :).

I am jealous of your mellow dog! We have one of the land shark ones and he's still super hyper half the time. It takes almost nothing to rile him up. Although..he's gotten really lazy in the mornings and is tough to get him moving to get out to work. Of course it's only when we need him up that's mellow :P

Moose(the puppy/land shark) is like that, he's wants to cuddle only about 5% of the day, and it's when I have to leave the other 95% of the day he has constant zoomies!
