Beowoof was a bit over 12 pounds when we picked him up at 9 weeks old. He grew fast after that. He was 55 pounds by 10 months and now at almost 2 he is a trim 65 pounds. He was predicted to be 45-50 pounds and had parents that were both 45 pounds. You never know with mixes. :-)
Congrats on your pup!
OMGoodness....Have no fear, they grow like weeds....My little one is a medium & has gained nearly 30 lbs. in the last 6 months...I often feel like I adopted a puppy & received a horse!
When I brought my doodle home at 8 weeks she was 3.5lbs. Her littermate were 10-12 lbs at that age. She was the runt and had to have surgery at 6 weeks. She was skin and bones when I first got her. She put on weight quickly and at 4 years she weighs 40lbs. Her littermate are between 55-65lbs.
Every puppy grows at a different rate and because he is a mixed breed its very hard for a breeder or even a veterinarian to guess how much they will weigh as an adult, but I think this chart gives a pretty good idea, although its definitely not something that is 100% accurate. Also, medium and large breeds take longer to reach adult weight, some can even take up to 3 years.
ONLY 12 lbs at 8 weeks? ha!!
Henly was 7.8 lbs at 8 weeks. She's coming up on 16 weeks this Sunday and she'll be pushing 20 lbs. The breeder told us she'd be about 50 lbs. So far, she seems on track for that predication...or maybe I should say, the breeder seems on track for Henly's progress. Henly is supposed to be small-ish for a standard doodle, which is what we were looking for.
Gosh I really dont remember how small mine were at such a young age, but 12 pounds sounds about right for both mine as one would not have been able to fit under the seat of a plane in a carrier at 10 weeks, so it was about 12 pnds.
With both parents being big, its pretty much a given that he should be as well. Maybe he was just the runt of the group and he will catch up. Watch what you ask for as I have a runt of a litter and he is 60 pds and has siblings in the over 100# range. I'll take 60 pds thank you!
Wait to see what he is at 14 weeks, multiply by 2 and +/- 5-10pds and you'll be in the ball park of his eventual full grown weight. It works just about every time so just wait a few more weeks to see. Keep us posted?
Georgia was 12 lbs at 8 weeks. I wanted a smaller dog and when I told the vet she was predicted to be between 45-50 lbs based on the parent's size and the previous litter, she looked at me like I was crazy.
She's 49 lbs at 20 months, but a bit thin. I think she is the perfect size.
I have a standard F2b labradoodle. He is 70-72 lbs as of now at 1 year and 4 months. I don't think he is going to put on more weight because he is already solid muscle.
I looked back, and he was 17 lbs at 10 weeks. He did have big paws. Also, he has the lanky poodle body as opposed to the lab body. He is a tall guy (27" at the shoulder), but light for his size. You might have a more compact dog that carries the same weight, or you might have a guy like Orwell. It is hard to tell at this age. Orwell came from a litter that ranged from 50 lbs (mostly the girls) to 85 lbs. He has a few brothers that are his same height, but have more of a lab body allowing for extra weight.
No you did not. Wally is a bit over 4 months now. When we picked him up at week 8, he was only 9-10lbs... He came from a litter of 7 and was the only male. We thought he would be small since he was smaller than all his sisters. He do have big paws though.
Now he's 18 weeks old and weighed in at 28lbs. He is a standard size.
