Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Had to add this one!!! I see so many that are concerned about their open faced doodles. I have just the opposite - I have a golden doodle that could easily pass for 100% poodle.  Mind you - I am NOT complaining - just stating a fact. I understand genetics and know that since he is 75% poodle, with his mom carrying the poodle genes, it is entirely possible that he is carrying all poodle genes.  His litter mate brother looks like a "typical" doodle, while Cody looks like a kinky headed poodle. They are both the most wonderful things on 4 legs, but Cody HATES to be brushed and without daily brushing, he mats like crazy.  Sigh!!  Casey, on the other hand, loves to be brushed and he could easily go for a week between brushings. His coat is wavy and course. They are SO funny, and SUCH joys to have in our lives.

Cody reminds me a lot of Cocoa. When her hair is long, she looks doodly, but when her hair is short, she looks like an exotic poodle. Like Cody, she mats easily and hates being brushed out, so I keep her hair short most of the time. Cocoa also "prances" like a poodle when she walks, which makes her all the more look like a poodle. Like you, I adore my exotic poodle!

Leslie - do you clip Cocoa yourself?  I have recently started trying to clip them since Cody HATES going to the groomer. I have talked to her and spent time there watching her, so know that she is gentle with the dogs. Cody just doesn't think he should have to put up with that!!!  So funny!!!  Anyway - I am trying to find out what size blade to use to keep him groomed.  When he is shorter, he is really curly, but can be brushed a bit easier. As he grows out, he is really difficult to brush.

I have a Labradoodle that is goldish and a Goldendoodle that is black. Hehehe.

I know I get strange looks when I tell people that Jade is a Goldendoodle - especially from people who don't know anything about doodles. ;)
Lyndy - I know that look. I get the same strange look when I tell people that Cody is a goldendoodle and not a poodle. They can easily "buy" that Casey is a goldendoodle since he has the more typical color of a golden retriever. I think more and more people are becoming aware of doodles, so they understand what the are, but Cody's coat and color still throws them.
Unfortunately, I have no idea how to groom Cocoa. I have our groomer clip her all over (nose to tail) at 1". I don't like the shaggy ears and tail on her. It seems she looks less poodly since we started clipping her the same length all over, but people still often comment on my lovely poodle!
