Well, I'm like a nervous mom who is about to get their child their first haircut. We have an appt. for Penny for her first haircut in a week. I'm going to ask them to make the hair around her eyes very short; keep her mustache, beard, eyebrows, tail, and ears the same; take a good inch off her body and head in a "puppy cut" style, I guess; and scissor trim her feet and butt area. I hope I don't regret this. But her hair is so wild and crazy, it's not attractive anymore. She kinda smells. I think her long hair is picking up undesireable stuff from our yard. Penny was quite traumatized with the electric clippers when we had her shampooed and trimmed a little, a couple weeks ago. I can't imagine how she'll carry on when clippers are used for her whole body. I'm kinda afraid that she won't look like a puppy anymore, once she's cut. But at least she'll be neater and clean. I'll post photos with her new "do" (if it's successful).

Just remember it grows out so fast. If you don't like it right away, wait a week, then you may love it!

The shorter look has grown on me for my two. Plus it's so much easier maintenance.

If you try the clippers again, you might just begin real slow by having the clippers running, then advance to touching the backside of the clippers while running to her back. Eventually try the clippers on her again. Maybe have someone giving a few high value treats while this is going on. Might be enough to distract her and get her used to it. This is how we've trained our doods.

Oh Sally, make sure to tell them (Insistently!) NOT to trim her beautiful long Doodle eyelashes. They are so pretty when they grow out long. If you don't stress the point, they may just forget and cut them anyway.

Definitely! I swear, her lashes are an inch long. Never have seen doggie eyelashes like that. Thanks for the reminder.

She is just a gorgeous girl and those lashes are to die for! I am having a hard time getting Lucy's to grow right again since they got trimmed by "accident".

Thanks! I didn't realize Penny's eyelashes showed up that well in my photos. I trimmed a little hair on Penny's face (around her eyes) the other day and even I had to be careful not to get her eyelashes by mistake. They are freakishly long (in a good way). Is this normal for Doodles? Is it the Poodle or Golden Retriever that has that trait? Lucy's didn't grow long again? What a shame!

Not really sure, I have had poodles and they never had lashes like that but my daughter has a golden and she doesn't have them either. My two F1b girls just have the real short lashes.  Lucy is F1. Its just a Doodle thing! Lol!

My doodles are scissor cut all over - no clippers used at all.  My doodles have long lashes, especially the more poodley one.

Penny gets groomed next Monday. I'm throwing around the idea of the groomer using scissors only. Penny didn't like the "buzz" of electric clippers. I think it scared her and that's why she was "screaming". I'll tell the groomer how she reacted, previously, and let her decide. If Penny gets really scared again, I'm sure the groomer will change to scissors.
