Looking at these 2 pups locally to adopt, Wondering what their coats may be?

Hi!

So, My husband has put his foot down, sadly, and asked that we get a puppy locally...One we can go meet in person. (Can't blame him, I guess thats reasonable!) So we're looking at a few adorable options that are available, and wondering what their coats may look like?

They are too cute, and its so hard to choose!! SO hard!

Puppy 1 - Born 12/28/15 (about 6 weeks old)

Puppy 2. Too cute!! born 11/1/15 (13 weeks old)

Puppy #2 seems to have a thicker, fuller and longer coat, but it's hard to see his face.  If his face was totally smooth then he might be a flatter coat that you want.
The most important thing is that these local pups are from a quality breeder.  The cutest coat and nicest person with two breeding dogs doesn't make up for poor breeding practices.  I'm only saying this because most people don't live next to ONE good breeder, let alone two good breeders.  There aren't hundreds and hundreds throughout the country.  Have you seen our page on What to Look for In a Breeder?

Oh ive read a bunch of "how to know a good breeder" pages! All helpful. These 2 breeders aren't actually "local" and in my city, 1 is about 6 hours north of us (haha, but same state at least!) and the other is in oregon. But-- my sister lives right by her and is going to swing by tomorrow to just meet and make sure the dogs and grounds look healthy and safe.

And I agree, there are definitely usually NOT good breeders right next to you! LOL

If you could ask the breeder of puppy #2 for an additional photo showing his face from the front, folks here might be better able to offer predictions as to what he might look like as he becomes an adult. From the picture that you provided, it looks like his face might end up being pretty smooth. The rest of his body seems to have a longer, fluffier coat.

Puppy #1 appears to have a shorter coat, but maybe a fuller face. Since this puppy is only six-weeks old, would he stay with his litter for the next two weeks? He would learn so much from his mother in those additional two weeks, which is why breeders usually hold onto the pups until they are a full, eight-weeks old.

Also, I would ask both breeders for proof of health testing, and a description of their personalities before deciding anything. Good luck! They are both very cute.

The second pup looks very much like the dog I am fostering.  Her perhaps 7 week puppy pic from the breeder, a young adult pic taken by the previous owner, and one taken by me when I met her (she needs grooming).  She is now four.

Cutie!

Hi Cari, If you are looking for more of the retrieverish look (which I am guessing is the case based on some of your other discussions), then of the two puppies you are considering, I would predict that Puppy #2 will have more of the appearance that you seek. Plus, at 13 weeks, it would be nice for him to go to his forever home :o) Just do your due diligence and be as sure as you can that he is healthy and has the temperament that matches your lifestyle and wishes.

I agree with everything already posted. Puppy 2 has the most chance of having the open face. From what I can see, her feet also have very little fur on them and that is a good sign for more retriever features. Can you get another photo of his/her face?

What are their breeds?  First looks like a labradoodle and the second looks like a goldendoodle.  The first is too young to leave his mother yet and usually dogs are sold between 8 and 12 weeks.  Therefore, the second dog is an "overaged pup". Yes, check out your breeders carefully and an actual trip to their home to see the parents of the pup is a great idea.  There are some good breeders in California, but be sure to check them out carefully.

Here's another. so cute!

Is this one a Goldendoodle?
My Jade has super wavy hair, but I'm not sure what it will look like as an adult. She is about 13 wks in my profile pic.

The other looks like it might be more of a Labradoodle? If so, I would say it's probably going to be wiry hair like Gracie (my blonde Labradoodle).

Cute! no, they said this little guy is a golden doodle! Mom is a standard poodle and dad is a golden retriever! Going to your profile to see yours!

My bet is wavy hair. Maybe even thick wavy hair. That's what kind Jade has.
