I know there have been many discussions but I'm looking to purchase pet insurance for my pup. I've heard good things about Trupanion, Healthy Paws, and Pet Plan. I've looked into each of them but it's a little overwhelming. Does anyone know why one might be a better choice than the other? My GD pup is 13 weeks old. Thanks in advance!

I have Healthy Paws and I can tell you the reason I chose them was because they have an annual deduction instead of each incident and there is no limit on claims. I only have it for major medical. I don't need it for anything else. But if 2 or 3 things happen in one year then I only have to pay it once.

Thanks Amy!
This is the reason I also went with Healthy Paws. However, they do not cover the vet exam fee. But so far it's been lower than the deductible of other plans. I've been very happy with Healthy Paws. I've had two claims and they have paid them very quickly.

I have been very pleased with Healthy Paws. The customer service is fantastic. I chose it for the same reason as Amy. Some years I don't use the insurance and other times I file for multiple issues.

I have Pet Plan.  In the last five months I have had major claims because of Roo's heart condition.  I did choose a high deductible, no coverage for routine visits.  Pet Plan came through big time for Roo's bills including specialist and ongoing expensive prescriptions.  My vet's office can handle the claims if I bring them the signed claim form which is very useful.

I have also had great experience with PetPlan, and have put them to the test with many serious claim situations.

I also have Petplan. I wanted it only for major illness / injury. It does not cover routine visits. Great customer service and prompt payment.

I think insurance has to meet your personal needs.  Everyone is looking for different things.  I don't think you can go wrong with any of these three.  I personally have Pet Plan and I have no complaints.  I like that I can choose my deductible and then choose my % of pay.  I like them to pay 100 percent (regular vet, 80% at specialist) after my deductible.  I don't think (but I could be wrong) that you can get 100% pay with Healthy Paws.  However, Healthy Paws will pay for two CCL repairs in the same plan year and Pet Plan won't.  There are just little differences in the plans.  You just need to figure out what is important to you.  Pet Plan does have a yearly cap on an illness but it is pretty high.  Healthy Paws doesn't have a cap I don't think.

Definitely Healthy Paws!

Annual deduction, instead of per incident. And no limit on claims.

They saved us 10k last year when one of my doodles had two knee surgeries. They covered both surgeries (within 4 month of each other), plus cold laser rehabilitation, and water treadmill rehab.
