If they are letting you see the parents, is it still a puppy mill??

We are thinking of adding another doodle to the pack, a bernedoodle or a sheepadoodle. The only ones I can find are in the amish country. We called them and ask if they had shots and If if we can meet the parents. She said that they are both here for you to meet. We are going up there on the weekend to go see them. I looked up the breeder and I only found that breed of dog. So far I am think that they are not a puppy mill because they are being so open. Now, I know that all amish people who breed dogs don't have puppy mills but I still want t be safe.

Probably not because they want to be as secretive as possible.  I've heard that some of them even give you fake vaccine papers.

OOPS! I just realized that there are mistakes in the  Discussion. I wrote that  when I first woke up and, was rushing... Sorry!

You can go back and edit the main discussion.

Pennsylvania list of mills closed or closing because of stricter laws there, but guess where they're heading where there are no limits and laws are bare minimum! Of course it's NYS!
The new regulations are working thankfully and more dogs will be saved from living in these awful places.

A lot of Stoltzfus's. Before I got Annabelle I used to see that name all the time on Greenfield, then I wised up.

Why go and see them at all? This is another way they get you. You see a cute puppy and the sellers are so nice and you just have to take the puppy home. I lived near Lancaster, PA, and it is one of the most known puppy mill cities in the USA. You can go and report them and little will come of it. The only way to stop these breeders is if no one gives them any business.

BIG RED FLAG!!!!! They have all kinds of breeds!!!  Definitely a puppy mill :(

The being in 4 different states was a big red flag for me as well. I agree, I wouldn't even go. You may come home with a puppy without realizing what just happened. If you go, don't take any money with you.

The website itself is a broker site for puppy mills. The ads are for many different Amish breeders in many locations. Greenfield is the same, and there are others. In general, if the breeder doesn't have their own site, and advertises on the broker sites, that in itself is a huge red flag.

Amen. No reason to go. It's a puppy mill, and the parents have not had genetic health testing done. Considering that Bernese Mountain Dogs have one of the shortest life expectancies of any breed out there, you want to at least make sure that the parents have had the appropriate testing done.

There are so many Doodlekisses members who can provide you with the names of ethical breeders if you private message them.   I looked at the website you provided, and would run in the opposite direction as fast as I could.   I would hesitate to even visit them, because it is so hard to look at a puppy and leave.

Thank you so much everyone! I have one more question? Is it okay if a "breeder" breeds  more than one breed?(that was an odd sentence..) If it is, how many??
