Finally!  Going to get a discussion started with good (and safe) dog treats!

As a reminder, any treats made from a company listed in our Recommended Foods list will work, so I am not going to list them here. Visit this link for those brands:  http://www.doodlekisses.com/group/thefoodgroup/forum/topics/recomme...

You can't find it because I forgot to include it, LOL. The treats are called "Get Naked", and here's the link: http://www.n-bone.com/

Thanks, Ally!

I love the name!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Get Naked how creative :)

Does this mean anything by n-bone is okay? Yeti loves their chewing rings.

Yes. :)

I tried the Stella & Chewys treats and my boys loved them!! They especially loved the salmon and cod, which makes me sad because they stink!! So, I save those for when we are doing challenging training sessions!!

Dr. Beckers is what my 2 doodles love!

What is a good treat for puppy training-soft and easy to eat. Prefer grain free. Can't always tell from description if they are hard or soft?

Pam, I know you know this, but just a reminder: no new treats or foods of any kind for the first two weeks the puppy is home. Only whatever the breeder was feeding and using for treats. If the breeder wasn't using treats, you can use tiny pieces of plain boiled white meat chicken.

After that, you'll want to start with treats that utilize the same protein sources as whatever food you are feeding.

You might look at Pure Bites; they're just 100% dehydrated chicken, turkey, beef liver, or whatever. Not exactly "soft", but very easy to eat.

I second the PureBites - they're really easy to cut into small training-sized treats.  The liver ones are pretty airy, sort of a sponge-like texture and very easy to eat.

CloudStar Soft & Chewy Buddy Biscuits. They come in both grain-inclusive and grain-free varieties and are very soft and easy to break up into smaller pieces by "dismembering" the little men. They are perfect training treats IMO because they are a great, easy-to-eat blast of flavor to reward the puppy with quickly.

Im wondering about a treat that is for sale in our new pet food store that sells all the recommended foods on the list. They said if one of the companies sells to a major company like delmonte or nestle than they no longer carry their product. They sell a treat I have never seen before so I thought I would ask. They are Coconut crunchers or Pumpkin crunchers by K9 Granola factory. I would like to try them but unsure about ingredients. The first one in most is Oatmeal or Barley flour. Are those OK?

I guess Im not really sure about wheat and wheat flour. Old Mother Hubbard treats are on the recommended list but their first ingredient is Whole wheat flour followed by Oatmeal. I thought the goal was No corn, no wheat and no soy?? Or is wheat flour not the same thing?

Many of us, especially those whose dogs have food sensitivities or allergies, avoid treats that contain any form of wheat or wheat flour; it just happens to be a highly-allergenic food. Certain other types of grain (and flours made from them) such as oats or barley, are generally better tolerated by many dogs. But there's nothing wrong with giving your dog an occasional treat made with human-grade wheat flour if he/she tolerates it well.

Every product made by every company on our recommended list may not be right for every dog. It's the brand that we are recommending. I personally try to stick with grain-free everything.
