Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Hello everyone!

It is such a great opportunity to join doodle kisses.

I have a 5 months goldendoodle that consider as F1B. His mother is 3/4 golden and 1/4 poodle and dad is full poodle. Breeder told me he technically consider as both F1 and F1B. As Rio going through the mature process, my skeptical on his breed just wont go away.  Im not here to complain about my lovely dog, but i just wanted to hear some opinions about his beed. Could anyone tell me he consider as fully F1? or F1B? or....maybe retriever (due to fact that he shed so much)? Im attaching his mother's picture and Rio's

Thanks for reading !!
Hope to see everyone soon!

That little white one is your doodles mom and she is 3/4 retriever? I am confused on which dog is yours and which one is your dogs mom. So his mom is and f1b back to retriever and his dad is a full poodle. I am not sure what yours would be, there should be more poodle, but he does look more retriever. If that one in the car is yours.

yes, that what the breeder told me.

but,.....as you can see, Im pretty sure that's F1B doodle.

I believe the designation would be F2B.  The mother is an F1B crossed back to a poodle.  This is a highly unusual crossbreeding.

Agreed.  This is a highly unusual crossbreeding.  I think all F1b pets should be spayed or neutered so you do not get these mixes.  Normally the b stands for bred back to a poodle.  I don't know the advantage to having a 3/4 retriever.  However, 3/4 poodle has a wonderful coat and are usually hypoallergenic and non-shedders.  Yes, the photos are confusing.   The puppy looks more retriever and the older dog looks more poodle.

F1 is *only* made by breeding two separate pure breeds together.  So a pure poodle and pure retriever = F1 labradoodle.  The "1" refers to the first mix.

F1b means an F1 bred with one of the original parent breeds.  So an F1 goldendoodle crossed with either a poodle or a retriever.  Most good breeders won't cross back with a retriever because that generally defeats the purpose.

Since your pup's parents were so "poodle-y" it would be expected that your pup would be more poodle-y, but genetics sometimes throws out a wild card.  By Rio's photo it looks like he will be more like a retriever in looks.  He is still darling :-)  But may shed.

I have a RIO TOO!

Looking at the pup's pic, it is a shame that the breeder was not more honest with you---this pup will surely shed--he has an "open face" (no furnishings or fluff on his face) and must have gotten all the retriever genes for coat. Are you sure this is the momma of this pup and the dad was a poodle (Did you visit the breeder or get the dog online?) I know that "throwbacks" can happen, but when this momma was crossed back to a poodle, I would think that none of the pups would look so much like a retriever--but again, it can happen.
