I was wondering if anyone has ever seen anything like this before?  I just noticed this red/blood spot this morning on Oliver's belly.  I pointed it out to my groomer when I brought him to his appointment this morning and she said he dogs got something similar and it went away within a day or so.  If it is still there tomorrow or has gotten any worse, I will definitely make a call to the vet.  It doesn't bother him, it is flat and under the skin and I can't see any kind of a puncture.  I did a google search and found petechia, bruises, or ecchymoses.  As far as I know, he did not suffer any type of trauma.  I do have another dog, but they are not left unattended outside.  They usually just sleep when we are not home ( I have a doggie cam).

Nancy, from the photo, I can't tell how large the spot is. Can you give us an idea?

I just took a ruler to it......He's looking at me like I'm crazy...LOL!!!   It is about 3/4 to 1 inch long by about 1/2 inch wide.  I just googled black fly bite on dog and it looks exactly like it.  It would make sense, I walked both dogs yesterday at a grassy park and I pulled a tick off Ivy but nothing on Oliver.  I read that tick bites on dogs don't usually have the "bullseye" look like they do on people.  What are you thinking Karen?

I didn't really have anything specific in mind. I personally think I'd feel more comfortable having the vet look at it to be sure, but it does look like the pictures of black fly bites I saw on-line.

Sometimes I hesitate to rush to the vet, I have done that in the past and sometimes I feel like I wasted my money and time.  Not that I wouldn't spend every dollar I had on my pups but when you go to the vet for a "pimple".....................Yes I did that once....LOL, I could have bought nice treat for the emergency visit price of 65.00.  I only wish I could send a pic and ask their advice, tried that and she wont :(  I think I'm going to see what it looks like tomorrow.  I truly appreciate your time :)

My vet doesn't usually charge me for just looking at something; that's sometimes the benefit of going all the time, lol.

I personally would just watch it for a few days to see how it evolves. It doesn't look like anything a vet could do something about..

I would do the same F.

My dogs get these when they have been bitten by blackflies.

Yes I'm thinking black flies.  I am just going to watch it for a few days.  Thank you all for your comments :)
