Hi All :
My Labradoodle, Toby seems like having a sensitive stomach compared to others.
I started with California Natural from the pet store's suggestion then switched to IAMS low residue from the Vet.
Problem is he has been fine for couples of months for those food per each then it didn't work out a it used to be.
I didn't put any CAN food before as I didn't want to make him spoil with that.
Now his stool is relatively loose so it's not easy to remove from the street CLEARLY.
I have been feeding him with a powder and CAN food with his original dry food for last 10 days but it was not that firm as he did before.
Is there anyone who has an idea for this?
If so, please help me.
I would appreciate it very much.
Hope to hear from you guys soon.
Thank you
Regards,
Toby & Scott
Actually, there are many people who will tell you that it IS the best food out there. A very, very high quality food from a company with (so far) absolutely top-notch standards & ethics.
That's good to know. When we had our husky (the love of my life), he was our first. We were young and stupid...we bought a husky because we thought they looked cool. That was the extent of our research. BUT he turned out to be the best pet on the face of the earth. Sorry...back on topic. We were young and put him on Nutrimax because that was what we grabbed. When we got our second dog, she had the sensitive stomach, so we found Solid Gold. We switched Nolan our husky...just to make feeding them both easy. THE DIFFERENCE IN THE HUSKY'S ENERGY AND COAT WAS AMAZING!!! So, we've sworn by it since then. Now our doodle loves it too. It is very expensive, but dogs are family members, so that's just what you do for family. ($49 for 33#...and its NEVER on sale).
We had two litters of four Maltese puppies at the same time and each litter developed severe diarrhea. It was terrible, especially in the mornings - having to clean the little one's puppy pens and wash them even before our first cup of coffee. We were terribly worried about the pups. We did extensive testing at our vets and could not find anything wrong with the pups (thankfully).
The vet recommended Metamucil mixed with their food. We switched to Nutrimax, at the recommendation of another breeder, and ground it into a rough powder in the Cuisinart food processor and then added the Metamucil, finally wetting down the mixture into a gruel. That cleared up the diarrhea and after a while we just used Nutrimax without the Metamucil and without grinding it up as the puppies teeth grew.
For some reason, we had been feeding Holly Canidae and suddenly she began to have loose stools. We mixed the Canidae half and half with Hills Prescription WD kibble (which is a high fiber food) and the loose stools decreased but were not eliminated.
We began adding Dogzymes Biotin (which we got at a dog show at the recommendation of some breeders we know) and now the loose stools have just about completely been eliminated.
However, now that I read about Canidae changing their formula, I realize that Holly's stool problems occurred at just that time.
I am going to phase in Nutrimax into her diet. If it worked with one pound Maltese puppies and severe diarrhea, it should work for Holly.
Richard, you may want to re-think buying any of the Nutro products. Nutro has been bought out by Mars, which is the company that continues to have serious recall issues. In addition, all of the Nutromax & Nutro natural Choice formulas have changed, there are a lot of undesirable ingredients including soy, and there is a lot of controversy about one ingredient called methadione, which is synthetic vitamin K and is thought to cause some terrible medical issues in dogs. You will find much of this info in the commercial foods sections, along with recommendations for better foods, or you can do a search for "nutro" in the Forum section to pull up the individual discussions.
I fed Nutro for 16 years to my Mini poodle, and gave it to Jack for 3 years before recently switching due to the above issues.

Hi All,
Thank you so much for each and everyone's concern on this matter.
My pup, Toby is back to normal stool after having Merrick Puppy Plate.
It's always good to have people who is caring and supportive when we have to deal with any issue.
I hope I can be a part of that for others if anything will bring my attention that I can help or share with them.
Big hugs from Toby & Scott in NYC. :-)
I am glad that Toby is doing well. I noticed one thing in your post and it had me wondering. Just keep this is hte back of your mind just in case. Maya has been through many foods and would be fine and then get the runs which would last for a week or so. A little chicken and rice and she was better. Howver she kept on having the runs again and again after switching foods. After having her a while it turned out that I noticed that he always got the runs after she had been in a stressful situation (even if it was good stress like doggie daycare). Anyway I pointed this out to my vet and we gave me Librax pills for IBS. He said most dogs don't have IBS and the pills probably wouldn't work but we could try them before we did an endoscopy or anything else. Lo and behold the pills worked. If I knew she was going to be in a stressful situation that day I gave her a pill. If she had the runs bad I would give her a pill. They helped a lot. Now I have switched her diet again and we haven't needed the pills so we will see what happens next time my fam visits or I visit them (that is when the runs are really bad!!!)
hi i just joined doodlekisses & the food group... my 2 yr old doodle has had LOTs & LOTs of stomach problems- we tried all different foods and remedies & the ONLY THING THAT HAS WORKED & AM STILL ONE AND WILL NEVER SWITCH IS THE PURINA PRO PLAN FOR SENSITIVE SKIN & SMOMACH.. IT IS SALMON BASED and gracie loves it....
michelle
Hi Michelle, welcome to our group! Since you are very happy with the Purina and "will never switch", I am not saying this to try to persuade you otherwise. However, if you look at the main page of The Food Group, you will see that this group was founded in memory of Lynne's beloved standard poodle Magic, who died from the 2007 dog food recalls. Mars company, who was one of the major players in that disaster which cost many pets their lives, owns Purina, and continues to be plagued by more recall issues than any other company. They are still importing their ingredients from China, and they use very poor quality ingredients. In this group, we are trying to educate pet owners and help them so that what happened to Lynne's Magic will never happen to another dog.
I am not sure what other foods you have tried for Gracie, but the foods we generally recommend, and which get the highest ratings, are foods that are not available in the grocery store. Have you tried Innova, Nature's Variety, Evanger's, Merrick, Orijen, California naturals, Solid Gold, TOTW, or any of the other premium foods? I know it's a very long discussion, but if you take the time to read through the Commercial Foods section, you will get quite a wealth of eye-opening information, based on a lot of facts and research we have gathered, about what is really in the food you are feeding Gracie, and it may just change your mind. I hope you will enjoy learning with us as we seek to find the best, healthiest ways to care for our doodles.
Here is a link to one of the discussions on this topic, to get you started: http://www.doodlekisses.com/group/thefoodgroup/forum/topics/commerc...
Thanks Karen. I was going to add other links so that Michelle and others could do their own research but I got called away and had to stop after Fromm. I was trying to do some research on this company and had to end that, too. Hopefully, I will have more info in the future.

I know that many people don't like Pro Plan (by Purina). When my dog, who had been on Iams for many years (the vet said her stomach problems were not due to the dog food but to irritable bowel syndrome) was switched to Pro Plan for sensitive stomach (it's primarily salmon) she seemed to do well right away. Her coat became softer and she shed less and her stomach problems cleared up. She also liked it better. I am now mixing the pro plan with Evo because I want her to have a higher quality food. She seems to be alright with the mix.
