Has anyone tried that rotating nail file advertised on tv (and available at Petco, Petsmart, etc.)? Our guys absolutely hate it when we trim their nails, so I am eager to try something else, but don't want to waste the $20 on a useless gadet!

I use a regular dremel...it's called "Mini Mite" from Wal Mart. Here is some info from past discussions:

I really love it! One of those discussions above, should have a link to a great article on how to train your dogs to accept it.
Riley got so scared, he peed on me. They hate it & I don't think it works great. Don't waste the bucks on this.
poor Riley! My dogs love it and come after me when they see me pull it out of their grooming area. But I spent a couple of weeks acclimating them to the machine and its sound. Thule spent probably a few months watching me do it to Rosco-- before I even tried it on her. But once I decided to break her in, it only took a little bit of desensitizing to get her to accept it... and she's pretty spooky about things like that. this is a great article on how to train your dogs to accept mail trimming from the dremel: http://homepages.udayton.edu/~merensjp/doberdawn/dremel/dremel.html
We bought it and the dogs are not crazy about it. It's rather noisy and probably tickles, though it's better than clippers. (Especially for Casey - his nails are black so it's hard to see where to stop.)

We'll keep using it, but I wouldn't necessarily recommend it, either.
I bought the Peticure. At the time I ordered it I didn't know about any other machine so I can only speak about that machine.
I took baby steps to desensitize Samantha to it. She sits and lets me to do it though she doesn't love it - she doesnt like her feet being held but she does sit for it. I guess she figured it out to sit quietly gets her a treat a a whole lot faster.
She also has black nails and I am afraid to 'cut' them and they grow too fast for me to take her to have them cut professionally (I am also too cheap to spend money on something I can do myself).
If I had to do it again - yes I would purchase the Peticure.
Since Bella was "dremel trained", we have not had any problems with using a dremel on the doodle or poodle. They just watched me do Bella's nails and came up to get theirs done.
We actually picked this up recently at the nagging of my 12 year old. What finally enabled her request is that they have them at Bed, Bath and Beyond and we used one of those swell 20% off coupons we have a gizillion of. Better still is that we will be able to pick up the replacement heads with them as well = ) Up to this point we have been clipping nails, but I have nicked the quick a couple times. I had planned on getting a dremel, but what can I say ~ right place, right time, right coupon, worn down mom. On the positive side my 12 year old is now fully involved in the nail care and after supervising her I am very comfortable with her using it.
Judy uses a Dremyl tool also. Holly is very cooperative but seems to have ticklish feeet. We are seriously considering the Peticure.
I got it the other day.. The puppies don't mind it at all but Keera doesn't enjoy it.. She tries to pull away.. it does work however.
