Elly is 7 weeks old. We got her 3 days ago. I've been following Doodle Kisses for about a year now. So excited to have my own Doodle to add to Doodle Kisses!❤️

Congrats!! Very cute! In my state, there is a law that pups have to stay with momma until 8 weeks--you really have a BABY there as a week makes a bit difference! Good luck with her.

Thanks! The breeder weens them at 6 weeks. She said she's waited until 8 weeks in the past to let them go, but can tell no difference between letting them go at 7 or 8 weeks.. Our Spaniel was 7 weeks when we got her, and our Golden Retriever was 8 weeks. I can't tell the difference either, but she's grown already in 3 days, so I guess a week does make a difference, at least in size.

Between the ages of 6 and 8 weeks, puppies learn bite inhibition from their mothers and their litter mates. That's the main reason that 26 states have the 8 week law Ginny mentioned.

Your puppy is adorable.

Thank you! I've read about that, along with conflicting reports. I was trying to remember if my Golden Retriever was 8 or 9 weeks when we got her. I think she may have actually been 9 weeks. I will say this......Our Spaniel was 7 weeks old and we never had much of a problem with her biting, but we did with our Golden. She turned into the sweetest dog, but she was quite the biter when she was a puppy.
Adorable baby!!
Thank you! I think both of yours are adorable.
Congrats! Ellie is adorable!
Thank you! I hope she looks like yours when she grows up! Her coloring remind me of his. He is gorgeous!

Congratulations!  Enjoy!  What an adorable pup.  She is a bit young for you to have picked up as the 'best' socialization for bite inhibition takes place at the 7-8 week age when they play with siblings and mom.  Being aware of it makes it easier for you to understand if there is a bit of a problem as she develops, and helps you work on techniques to overcome it - which you can.

Thank you! She's a handful, but we're thankful and glad to finally have her. I would have liked to have left her with the other puppies a little longer, but everyone got theirs at 7 weeks. I actually picked mine up a day later, and that was because the breeder was meeting another lady 1 1/2 hours from me, so it was closer to me and convenient for her. As far as biting goes, my other dog, Birdie, plays with her and definitely lets her know if she's biting too hard (Birdie has long ears). I've had 3 Golden Retrievers in my life and never had any problems with biting, except when they were puppies. In fact, growing up my family always had dogs and they always bit and bit hard when they were puppies.. We even raised a couple of different breeds. But....I've never had a poodle. Is there a biting problem with poodles that I'm not aware of?
