Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

It's been a week since we traveled to VA Tech to get a second opinion. We were there Monday through Wednesday last week and saw internists and pathologists. They did a whole series of blood work and a couple of ultrasounds and biopsies. On Wednesday, Cooper was diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer and an Auto Immune Disease. Unfortunately, this cancer is not treatable because it has spread to his stomach and maybe other organs too. We had a choice of doing a surgery on him or not. We chose not to put him through the surgery because the doctors were sure that if he survive the surgery, he won't have a quality of life.  So we came home heartbroken.

We are going to say goodbye to our sweet boy Cooper tomorrow evening at home.  Please pray for my whole family that we will have the strength in our hearts to go through this end of life process with Cooper and find peace and comfort with what is left with us.

I'm so sorry, Paulette. My heart is breaking for you and your entire family. It's the hardest thing in the world, and the most selfless gift of love that you are giving sweet Cooper. I know he will live in your hearts forever. Hugs to you.

"We who choose to surround ourselves with lives even more temporary than our own, live within a fragile circle, easily and often breached.
Unable to accept its awful gaps, we still would live no other way.
We cherish memory as the only certain immortality,
never fully understanding the necessary plan."

What s news. Hugs to you and Cooper. You are doing the best thing possible for him.

So heart-broken for you and your family, Paulette. Can't imagine how hard this must be. Sending prayers of strength, peace, and comfort to you. Hopefully you can rest easy knowing you gave Cooper a wonderful life and lots of love.

Thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.  Loving him enough to let him go and not keep him around for your own reasons is the most loving thing that you can do for him.  We had to make this decision for our Sophie so I know that it is not one done easily or lightly.  He will be running pain free and he will know that you loved him.   My wish for you is that your wonderful memories will get you through the tough times, and that someday when you think of him and these memories they make you smile rather than be sad.   Hugs.

Beautifully said, Sheri.

The best gift we can give our babies is to know when it's time to say good bye.

My heart goes out to you and I am in tears thinking about it.

I'm so sorry to hear this heartbreaking news.  I hope you can find some peace in knowing that you gave him a wonderful life and that his love will always be with you.

I haven't been on DK much lately, so you likely don't know me, but I wanted to respond to your post. I am so sorry for you and the pain you must be experiencing. It was just a bit more than a year ago that we lost Sedona, our six-year-old labradoodle. Her death was completely unexpected. Although there is never a good time to lose a loved pet, this time of year seems to compound the pain. I know that people have different opinions about "replacing" a pet - if/when? In our case, we decided that the silent void Sedona left needed to be filled as soon as possible. Our search led us to Desi. Although he was only two weeks old and wouldn't be able to come home for awhile, just knowing he was on his way helped tremendously. It didn't diminish our love for Sedona. In fact, we feel that Sedona would have appreciated knowing that she opened our world to doodle love and that our home would be filled with doodle silliness again. On a side note, we now have a second doodle, Desi's half sister Cori. Hugs to you at this difficult time.
I'm so very sorry to hear the outcome of your visit for the second opinion. The hardest, but kindest, thing we can do for our precious four legged family members is to know when it is time to let them go. Cooper will be waiting across the rainbow bridge for you, running and playing without pain. Hugs to you and your family at this horribly difficult time.

I am so sorry to hear this! My heart breaks for you and your family!  Will keep you in our prayers!

I really don't know how to respond to this profoundly sad news, except to tell you that my heart is aching for you and your innocent and wonderful Cooper. I'm very, very sorry, Paulette.

Oh Paulette, this is so sad and I'm so sorry for all of you. Cooper had a great life and was so cared for.  This will be hard, but know that you are doing the very best for him.  You will be in my prayers for tomorrow and forward.
