We said goodbye to Charlie on Monday.  He lost his 4 months battle to Immune Mediated Hemolytic Anemia with Pure Red Cell Aplasia and its complications.  We had 8 hospital stays (from 3 to 5 days each), 4 transfusions, and I don't even remember how many tests, x ray, ultrasound, biopsy.  We also tried several human hormones like EPO (for red blood cell) and Neupogen (white blood cell growth factor), but none worked. In the end, the IMHA has began to not only affect his red blood cell, but also his platelet and his white blood cells.  The vet also suspect he might have emerging lymphoma.  He had severe infection in his nose and throats (e coli and MRSP), and culture/sensitivity showed only 1 antibiotic (Amikacin) would work.  Unfortunately he did not respond to it, and after only 5 days on Amikacin, his liver and kidney were being destroyed even with IV treatments.  He was in constant bone/muscle pain from the neupogen and all the other treatments.  Things took a turn for the worse a week ago, when his lymph nodes have swollen so big that they were pressing into his airway and esophagus, he couldn't breath, eat or drinking.  The doctor told us there were nothing more they can do.  We decided to stop the treatment and let him cross the rainbow bridge peacefully and with dignity.  He passed away in my arms, surrounded by our family and friends.  Our hearts are broken.

I am so sorry for your loss. You gave Charlie every bit of love and care possible. It is so hard to lose our beloved ones.

I'm so sorry about Charlie - wishing you comfort at this difficult time, when you've already been through so much. He was fortunate to have your care and love. Perhaps our Ripley will greet him at Rainbow Bridge and they can play together. Xo
I'm so sorry about Charlie. How devastating! You've been such a good caregiver to him and you carried that all the way to the end by letting him go peacefully when the time was right. I know if I were there, I'd just sit down and cry with you. Sending you virtual hugs...
I am very sorry to hear this. You certainly did all anyone could.
My heart breaks for you. Charlie couldn't have found a better family to love and care for him. May knowing you did all you could for him bring you some peace. Our thoughts are with you.
Our families sincere condolences to you and your family!
Gentle hugs
Rest in peace dear Charlie ❤️

I am so sorry.  You tried everything you could to cure Charlie, but when the most difficult and courageous decision had to be made, you gifted it to him with love.

So, so sorry for your loss. My heart breaks for you.

I am so sorry for your loss. He was a beautiful boy.

I am so sorry. I know exactly how you feel. 8 months ago, we lost our girl, Abby, after a 4 month battle with cancer and she was only 7 when diagnosed. I, like you, was broken. You went above and beyond to help him, and the love you have for him is so obvious. I will keep you in my thoughts during the difficult time ahead.

I am so sorry to hear this. He is a beautiful boy. Rest in peace, sweet boy!

Susan, I am so sorry for your loss also. It is just so hard to lose our beloved pets.
