Hey, this is our second golden doodle, first one was a cream color and now we have a black one. He is 8 months old, and we thought he had allergies or something, but the vet says his eyes are fine. We never noticed the third eyelid in our last golden doodle....is it because he is black and has the black pigment in the third eyelid?

You don't typically see a dog's third eyelid when he is fully awake, unless there's an illness or a problem. If your vet says his eyes are fine, I wouldn't worry.

I see my dogs' third eyelid often. They are both light colored and they are fine.

I had to look that one up. I never knew they had a third eyelid... or even a second one. see how much I learn here??!

I have an 8 month old as well and I see that all the time but I never thought anything of it. I will ask my vet next time we go in!

Yup--totally normal!! My black/white doodle has it.

Yes, it's fine. The third eyelid is more visible on one of my two doodles. It does not reach all the way to the pupil like on your dood, but it's visible.

I have never really thought about it, but I've always noticed it on Wally (cream with dark pigment) when he is resting, and have never seen it on Charlotte (also cream but with pink pigment).
