Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

I don't even know where to put this discussion. I thought Ava was doing better. We increased her prednisone dose on 1/8 to 12.5mg /day. She really perked up and was eating better. Then starting on the 19th she wasn't eating as well. She would eat, but not all of it. So I started putting some salmon on top and she did a little better with that.

Late on the 23rd she had one episode of diarrhea. On the morning of the 24th she had mucous-y diarrhea with blood in it. We went to the vet and they started her on Flagyl, lomotil, and probiotics along with the gross canned science diet for 2 days. She ate the Science Diet okay with some encouragement.

Yesterday she had a normal stool and I transitioned her back to her kibble with some canned Fromm mixed in. I eventually got her to eat most of that. But then this morning I couldn't convince her to eat anything at all. She turned down eggs, she turned down canned food, kibble, canned tuna, treats.

Then we went outside and she really didn't want to come back in. I don't know what that was about, but it was unusual that she wouldn't come when I called her. I had to go outside and stand her up and walk her back in because I needed to leave for work.

I'm just at such a loss as to how to help her. It doesn't feel like anything we've done is making her better. She has another appointment at the vet on Thursday. I don't know, maybe I need to stop and pick up some chicken on the way home tonight. I wish she would tell me if there was something she would eat. I just worry about her.

Please include regular updates. We are all concerned. Hoping for the best.

I am praying for you and Ava.  Wouldn't it be fabulous if Panacur does the trick?!!  I am NOT tired of Ava updates.  We've all grown to love her and truly care about how she is feeling - and you alsol

Good luck with the Panacur.

Will say a prayer that the treatment plan works and Ava feels better soon! (((Hugs))) to you and Ava.

Now her temperature is 103.3. I'm not sure what to do with her. I guess I'll call the vet in the morning.

Keep in mind a dogs temp is higher than a humans to begin with. Normal range for a dog can be 102.5. So her temp isn't that much higher than normal. I might even call the emergency vet and see what they say.

I know they run warmer than we do, but my vet doesn't like it when she's that warm and she's not stressed by being at the vet or active or some other reason for her to be that hot. Couple that with the fact that her respiratory rate is 90 while she's sleeping and she doesn't look very good. I would take her to the emergency vet if I thought there was anything they could do, but we've run every test and no one can come up with any more ideas for treatment. They could probably put her on oxygen, but I just can't bring myself to leave her there if there's nothing they can do but put a bandaid on it. She hates the vet. I wish I could give her some ibuprofen (I know I can't) and make her feel better. Ibuprofen fixes everything in people.

I just talked to Stacy, and I know all of her friends here will be as heartbroken as I am to hear that sweet Ava has crossed the Rainbow Bridge. Thankfully, she passed peacefully, and naturally; she spared Stacy from having to make a heartbreaking decision, and that was her final gift to her mom. May she run free at the Bridge. She will live in her mom's heart forever.

I am so sorry to hear this but HAPPY to hear Stacy was spared the decision.  Run free sweet Ava.

I am so sad to hear this, but thankful she passed peacefully on her own. So many lost doodles lately, your heart breaks for each one.

Thanks for letting us know. I am sorry to hear this but Ava is free from whatever was causing her to be so ill.

So sorry to hear this.  Rest peacefully sweet Ava.
