Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Hello,

We picked up our fur baby Maple 3 weeks ago (she is 10wks tomorrow); Seller in Norish, Ontario posted her as a GD and indicated mom is a Sweet Golden Retrieve and the sire is an Apricot American Standard Poodle;  however I now question if she is one do her type of hair.

As an F1 she would have 50% poodle and 50% golden retriever genens, which means you could get a pup that looks very poodly, very golden retrievery, or somewhere in the middle. The pup might shed as much as a golden, not shed at all, or be somewhere in the middle. The same for temperament. Did you meet her parents?  What did they look like?  I'm surprised that the breeder let her go before eight weeks of age. I tried to look up Norish to see where she was from, but Google didn't recognise it!!

Norish is close to Woodstock Ontario.  The pups were posted on Kijiji (which I will never do again).  The seller whom I now found out was selling them for someone else will not provide any pics.  I am furious with myself  however she is now part of the family and will love  her as such.

I think you mean Norwich Ontario which is near Woodstock.

They are a mixed breed and therefor unpredictable. A good breeder can make an educated guess on what type of coat the pups will have. Other than that, it is a crap shoot. It does look like Maple will have a more open face and take more after her golden retriever parent.  I have seen f1b goldendoodles that are 3/4 poodle look more retriever. There is a group here you might like. Maple is a cutie though, whatever coat she ends up with. Just the fact the breeder let her go so young, is a red flag. http://www.doodlekisses.com/group/wheresthepoodleinmydoodle

I actually prefer the open face; I had a golden doodle 3 years ago (gone due to cancer) and it was quite difficult maintaining the  hair on her face.  Initially the seller (Kijiji)  indicated the pups were 8 wks old, when I looked at the vet papers when I got home I realized she was younger.  She was sick with an upper respiratory infection which I quickly got her to the vet and is now quite playful and gets into everything.

Annabelles coat is on the curly side, I take her for grooming every 6 weeks. She doesn't shed but is high maintenance. Glad to hear Maple is now healthy and playful.

She could easily be an F1 Goldendoodle--but what do you mean "picked her up"? At an airport? Sounds like you did not know too much about the breeder and did not meet the person at all--but she is a cute pup, so that is good.

I picked her up at what I thought was the breeders home; I found her on Kijiji (which I will never do again).

Hi Rachell,  same here...I found Maple via Kijiji and in the end I think the seller with held a lot of information aka lied!.  When I contacted her couple days later due to the pup being ill she shut down.  I requested pics of the parents where she refused to give them.   In the end, she is still so cute and sweet and now a family member.     Harry is so cute, I'm sure he will bring much joy in the years ahead.

she is just beautiful. Best of luck.  Christine

I love your “she’s now a family member and we’ll love her as such” attitude!  I found DoodleKisses AFTER getting our first doodle and learning what to look for in a breeder. While I’m sure she was a reputable, experienced, professional breeder, there were a few discrepancies between her practices and what I would have looked for had I been more educated. Most significantly, she practiced early spay and neuter, which likely caused our puppy to leak urine most of her life and may have contributed to her early death (cancer at age six). Nevertheless, Sedona was a wonderful doodle and we loved her dearly.

Have a a wonderful life with Maple. She’s a cutie!

My doodle looks just like yours (minus the freckling) and we also had an impulse buy from a breeder who wont provide puppy pictures and we question now whether he is a golden doodle. This page though has me more assured it is possible to look like this and still be a doodle. Do you know the seller or breeders name? Whats your pups birthday? Ours is around the same time 12/20/17 we've been told. We only know where one of his littermates went.
