Hi all,

Emma has an upset tummy :( She vomited twice last night, after having eaten some treats that she'd never had before. She didn't eat any dinner, had a good night, but this morning, ate a bit of food and vomited again! I'm not sure what to give her - rice with chicken broth, Pepto-Bismol? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

You can give a dog Pepto or Tums..................we do and it does help!
the first thing I would try is feeding her plain white rice for her next meal (just boiled). You can add boiled chicken if you want, but our doodles love just plain white rice.

You can also give her Pepto. We actually buy the tablets because I feel it's easier to administer (we put pb on it). I give just one tablet. You can also feed her canned pumpkin.

If she is still vomiting in another day or 2 I would call your vet to make sure she shouldn't go in for a check-up.
Our vet recommened against the tablets. Something about the dogs digestive system does not break the tablet down. I would suggest you talk to your vet.
I would let her go without food and just some water at first then once you feed her something bland like chicken then also give her raw pumpkin ( not the pie mix) and or the herb slippery elm.

Diane, while you have gotten some great information here about settling your girls tummy you have not mentioned what the treat was ~ this was my first thought. Any chance it was chicken jerky? OR something with peanut butter as an ingredient? If it was either of these I would not delay a visit to the vet. I am sorry I am catching this so late and sure hope that your problems have passed.
Thanks for your concern. I took Emma to the vet yesterday and she did have a slight temp. He gave her a shot to settle her gut and sent her home with two cans of i/d (which, by the way, she won't touch) and a five day dose of Metronidazole. In the meantime, she did have a little diarreah on Sunday and yesterday morning, but has not vomited since Sunday afternoon. She's behaving fine and she did eat some of her kibble this morning (which she's kept down, so far), so hopefully it's passed. As for what could have been the source of the upset, she did have a treat which I bought at a local pet store and honestly, since I bought it about a month ago, I don't know what it was but it certainly could have been chicken jerky. She didn't have anything containing peanut butter, but I did give her about a teaspoon of bone marrow mixed in with her food on Thursday evening (my bad!!). I think that all these things in combination certainly contributed to her upset. By the way, the vet did not think she was dehydrated (thank goodness). Again, thank you so much for your interest and concern.
It's great she is doing better ...thanks for letting us know.
I am awfully glad she is on the road to recovery! Check out on the food group, I believe under current recalls ~ there have been MANY issues with chicken jerkey treats, particularly those with that good old 'made in china'. While not an official recall, the FDA continues to express warnings.
