Lucca is 4 1/2 months and teething. He puts his mouth on a stuffed toy and almost suckles it and kneads with his paws (like a cat)!!. He puts himself to sleep. It's almost like a baby with a pacifier and blankie!!! Anyone else have this behavior??

Our dog (5 1/2 months) likes to have a finger or a thumb in his mouth. Not to bite down on or injure in any way, just to have in there. Almost like a pacifier, I guess. It's quite strange. :)
That video is so cute. It looks just like what Lucca does!!
That is so sweet!!
Tully, who is now 6 months, has been "nursing" on his white teddy bear since he was about 2 1/2 months. I saw Sherlock doing it it Jane's video; he looks just like Tully. He brings his "baby" up on our bed and lays there and nurses while we read or watch TV; he will often fall asleep while he's sucking. It's adorable! I've had lots of cats that did this, but never a dog. It must be a Doodle thing!
It must be a doodle thing. I've never seen a dog do this before. It is really sweet to watch.
My standard poodle did that her whole life with a stuffed ball. She started out with my daughters teddy bear, but we had to retire it after the arm came off.I would sneak it away to wash it every now and then. My doodle now is starting to do the same thing with a toy similar to my poodles.
Hey...Grover does the same with his stuffed gorilla, Bananas. He kneads it like a cat, while suckling on it's head! Grover is 8 months, but has had this attachment from the beginning. He goes to bed with it and takes it out of the crate with him every morning. He tries to take Bananas out to play too.....depending on the weather, I let him. It's so important to him that I can't resist "the look" and usually let him pass through the door. It's awful to pull it away from him. The other night he was very restless while we were all watching TV and I realized that gorilla was out in my Jeep. When my husband took him in, poor Grover was so darn excited and immediately settled down to knead and suckle.....just like a kid with his blankie.

It's sure good to know that other doodles have this fetish. Scrappy loves some toys, but has never been so emotionally attached to any of them.
Gordie, my five year old English Springer Spaniel has a big hairy ball (actually we have about 6 of them) that he nurses on. It was the toy he "picked" out when we stopped at the pet store his first day. Ned, our doodle puppy, likes them also, however he pulls the hairs out thread by thread.

We had a catastrophe the night before last. We couldn't find Tully's "baby." We searched everywhere; Tully was so distraught at bedtime, he wouldn't get into his crate. He crawled under our bed and whimpered all night. I remembered the next morning that I had washed "her" because she was a bedraggled, smelly mess. You have never seen a dog so happy to see a laundry basket! All is right with the world now.
Oh my - that is so sweet! Not sweet that he was upset all night, but the attachment is sweet.
Now you know why we have about 6 fuzzy balls. We even keep 2 in the motor home.
