Anyone else constantly running into, or tripping over their doodle?
Sometimes I think my two labradoodles and my border collie feel no pain! Seems that every day I end up elbowing or kicking or kneeing Thule, stepping on Cass' foot, or tripping over Rosco to prevent stepping on his tail or belly or leg. And this is all by accident simply because they do not have a space bubble at all! I might be in the kitchen and suddenly turn around to grab one thing and end up with a bruised knee from having it crash into Thule's butt bone. Last night I was putting clothes away and reached down for something and elbowed Thule in the head! I might get up quickly from the table only to find I have no safe footing and almost fall on top of Rosco.
None of us are ever really injured--but sometimes it hurts and I feel so bad (for me and whatever doggy I've run into)!
Anyone else have this problem due to doggies constantly underfoot with NO space bubble?
OMG do I have this problem...Rosie is always underfoot, where I am she is. I'm a senior citizen, commonly known as an old person, so I do have somewhat of a fear of falling and know that someday that cute little rugrat and I are going to colide. I've learned though to always check before walking away from my kitchen counter or table, etc. I'm suprised when she's not there.
I must say Lucky likes to follow me everywhere but the only time I run into any problems is at night when it is dark for you see he is a chocalate doodle and I can't see him in the dark!! There have been plenty of times when I've gotten up at night only to trip over him!! I've started to develop a 6th sense when it comes to this now though. I feel his presense and gently navigate my way back to bed:)
In the middle of the night or at bedtime I almost never have this problem because I too am very careful expecting the dogs there... But the rest of the day I keep expecting that they will learn to keep a few more inches between themselves and their klutzy mother... LOL
Being new to this and not sure how this works I am laughing at your post. I have the same problem with Bailey. It seems I can't be out of his sight for a second and I to end up tripping over him as he constantly follows me wherever I go. I think it is their personality or at least Baileys. He has so much love to give that he wants me around 24/7.
Oh yes, I am always running into/tripping over Toby. He's just RIGHT there. Especially since he's black, walking him in the evening can be treacherous! He'll stop right in front of me, and bam, I run into him.
Hmmm, my middle name is Grace (less). It can be a challenge walking for me with no interference, you should see me with 11 puppies and 6 dogs weaving in and out of my ankles! Here is a recent post from another location that may give you a humorous visual, please enjoy at my expense I do not mind in the least!
Do you remember the 'land shark'?
"... the Landshark is considered the cleverest of all sharks. Unlike the great white shark, which tends to inhabit the waters and harbors and recreational beach areas, the Land Shark may strike at any place, anytime. It is capable of disguising its voice, and generally preys on young, single women."
Well 'young' of single women must be replaced for sure but I think a sighting was made some 30+ years later in my kitchen this morning ~ to be precise 11! We finally got paid back after our jokes, with freezing temps in FL and our 8 wk pups thought it was entertaining to chomp their razor sharp teeth into the bottom of my long jammie pants as I 'tried' to walk through the house! Of course they over shot a few times and from the knees down it does not look like swiss dot but rather swiss cheese. Ouch! Who needs ankle weights?
Made for an interesting training opportunity, 1 or 2 no problem, 11 while I staggered down the hall seeking fuel to start my brain (diet mountain dew) a challenge. Heck I have a hard enough time walking on my own in the morning! Just thought I would share that mental pic with you this morning, I am sure it was quite the sight!
Thank you for reminding me about night time! Thule, who is black, has given me several frights because of this. We don't have a large bedroom and the dog beds are in our bedroom where they sleep at night. There is a path between the dog beds and our bed.. But now and then there will be a black dog in that path outside of bedtime... In the dark! I have fallen over Thule a couple of times because of this!
This is an everyday occurence at my house. I am not the most graceful person anyway and so I feel like now I am constantly looking down so as to not step on the curly lump on the floor. Just this morning as I was cooking breakfast, I turned around and stepped on her tail. Ouch!! So she did move and then I realized she has her head next to the fridge door and I can't open it unless she moves again.
Yes, clutzy me and my doodle-shadow have this same problem on a daily basis. The house is small, and as much as you would think he would be used to our routine by now, he still has to be right behind me, as close as is possible. If I step into a room or even a closet to grab something for a second, I practically fall over him as I turn back around. I have learned never to "pivot", lol.
He doesn't seem to ever get hurt, though...it's usually me who ends up with a twisted ankle or a sore behind from losing my balance in an attempt to keep from stepping or falling on him.
I have this problem mostly in the kitchen. For some reason they both come in and lay down in the kitchen when I'm in there. I think they hope I'll drop something while I'm cooking or baking....which isn't unheard of. :) Ever the predators...or is that scavengers? Ha! I've gotten used to picking up my feet to step over them and it goes well unless they stand up suddenly. What startles me is when they sneak up behind me and I have to trip over myself not to stop on them.
