I'm thinking Toby should have a bath after the last few muddy days. But....today it's cold out. His fur really seems to hold the moisture, so I'm wondering - if I bathe him, how long will he take to dry? I don't want him outside wet - he'll surely catch a cold.

I don't know about anybody else, but my Bruce takes FOREVER to dry, even with the hair dryer. I gave him a bath last week, and it took me a good 2 and a half hours before he was 100% dry. in the summer he air dries faster than I can blow dry him in the winter...must be the sun. to bad they can't sell a dryer that emits rays of sunlight! lol
It takes Allie a L-O-N-G time to dry too, with the hair dryer.
Rosco is the same-- he starts to dry out while I'm watching him in the bathtub. I will be scrubbing one part of his body while the other part of his body looks like it's barely gotten wet. He probably takes one to two hours to dry completely without any blow drying. During warm months I usually just take him on a brisk walk outside to help dry him.

He does therapy every other Sunday, and if I have him bathed by 10 o'clock that morning he is usually completely dry by his therapy session at one o'clock except for under his ears.

usually this is our routine after a bath: after I have towel dried him a bit in the bathtub, I hook up his collar and hook up his leash and walk him out to the area where I have set out towels in our living room. I let him get a few shakes out as I walk him around the living room, and then I have him lie down on his towels. He usually rolls around them for a little bit and so I might walk him around the living room once more before I have him lie down and stay for 10 to 15 minutes. By that time he has calmed down and no longer needs to do zoomies around the house. so at that time I can do more grooming or just let him be free and air dry.

Sandy, if you can be sure that your puppy has peed and pooped before his bath, then you can towel-dry him a bit and then crate him for about an hour or so. Then make all future potty breaks leashed potty breaks so that he doesn't run around frozen.
We blow dry Millie for about 15 minutes and then it still takes her about 3 hours to fully dry!
Cali takes a really long time to dry. I use lots of towels and blow dry her as well. She is like a sponge it seems like, she soaks all the water in and then it takes forever to dry.
I have let mine air dry when it is chilly outside, I just turn up the heat in the house a little bit higher and brush them a few times to help seperate the hair. Kona has a faster drying coat than Buddy, but it only take a few hours.
Why not bathe him in a tub at night....our doodle knows to lie only on terry towels we provide for her after rainy walks or baths...(she won't get on the couch without one)..wrap your doodle in a terry towel...we also play "towel time" when we wrap her in a towel, she then unwraps herself and this goes on for atleast 20 minutes...by the end of this game she should be lightly damp...and then can sleep off the rest of the dampness till morning.....p.s. my lazy doodle sleeps in every day...til atleast 7:30 am...she's also a mini...25 pounds....good luck if you have a standard !!!
He's supposed to be a medium....but I reckon at six months he's already between 40 and 50 pounds. :) He sleeps in every day as well. He gets up with us, but is very, very lazy until 8:30 or so.
A VERY long time, even with the hair dryer. (at least an hour and a half with the hair dryer). If I get him towel dry only he is wet for at least 8 hours. Any help or hints?
My Giad dries VERY fast................it's like she repels water! We also let them lay in front of the fireplace!!
We used to blow dry Dexter, but it took forever and we just gave up. He takes forever to dry (pretty much over night to be totally dry), but he also never acts cold. Kirby dries very quickly (within 1-2 hrs he's mostly dry) but acts cold while he's wet (he hates the hairdryer).
