Need Suggestions on Safe Chew Toys...

I have tried bully sticks and both my girls got diarrhea and they wouldn't eat for a couple of days. They really upset their stomachs. I tried a nylabone and my Nestle threw up little chunks of it. She is a very strong chewer and our ropes are destroyed and any plastic toy is demolished. I am afraid to try anything that could damage Nestle's teeth. Even the kong toy was torn up. Any suggestions for a good safe chewing toy/treat would be helpful. Would love any suggestions...thanks a lot, Lizette

My doodle, Cooper, loves Antlers. They are real antlers that are found naturally in the wild. There's a company called Antlerz that you can find online. They are expensive but they last a long time. He also likes chewing on his kong when I stuff it with good stuff like peanut butter, cheese, cheerios, etc. One more thing he loves is Sam's Yams. They are dehydrated sweet potato. Cooper has a sensitive stomach and these things seem to be okay for him.

They make odorless Bully Sticks. There is really no odor at all, not just a gimic. I have even picked them up wet and slobbery, and nothing.

I have found the Nylabone Galileo (Souper size) bones pretty indestructible. They are advertised as the strongest dog bone in the world and I believe it. One thing that makes them better than other shapes of Nylabones is that they have fewer edges and have rounder curves so it is harder for dogs to chew a chunk off. Since your dogs have already chewed up a lesser Nylabone... I'm sure they would like the Galileo. The only complaints I've ever heard are when someones dog just doesn't care for Nylabones. Cass never liked them but both our Doodles love 'em just as much as their sterilized hollow bones. Two out of three ain't bad. ;-)

Our pooch was hard on all chew toys as well. He never tore apart a Kong, but he was only ever interested in those if they had some good stuff in the middle ;). The thing that he would gnaw over and over was the sterilized hollow bones. They last forever, and are GREAT for keeping their teeth clean. Perfect for big pups that no rubber or rope will stand up to ;).

Sage is a big chewer too. I would second a deer antler. And the sterilized hollow bones with a bit of peanut butter inside. She is also good with steer tendons- not bully sticks. Moo makes them 6 in long. With a forked part on one end. They last a couple of days and they don't smell or stain
Sage also has a teething ring that is cream with neon pink green yellow and blue. She doesn't seem to be able to destroy the hard plastic. I think it came from Petco.
We are happy because Sage's last baby tooth finally came out. We had visions of having to put her under for a tooth extraction- that would have been pretty expensive too. Boy these little critters sure can chew.
BTW we have taken away all toys. Just the chew toys and chewie tendon are left. Trainer said to put it all away- she has a toybox. So she plays when we are ready rather than leaping up on us to play. Seems to work!

Deer antlers are great, you can get them from Orvis.com... Our dogs love them...

You can get natural bones at the butcher counter at your grocery store. They are better than smoked or boiled bones. The girls will eat the meat off (that is a days meal so skip their normal food for the day). They will chew the bones for ages, you can stuff them with cheese and canned food...

If you can find a knee or knuckle they are the best.. the tendons are great.

I, too, have a world class chewer. The only toy he cannot chew up is by Zogoflex. Try smartpak.com or amazon.com or a really large pet store. The come in bone, ball, disc, and stuffer shape. Look at the pictures on my page for a picture of the orange bone in Roo's mouth.
