Sidiqi woke me up three times last night to go to the bathroom. Actually, his whining woke me up, poor little guy. Now that it's light out, I can see the problem. He has a touch of diarrhea. I think I remember reading on here that you should give dogs a bit of canned pumpkin if they had diarrhea, but I wanted to check with you all to see if I'm remembering right. I don't think it's bad enough to rush him to the vet, but I do want to help him feel better.

I give Lucky a heaping Tablespoon of canned pumpkin at every meal until diahrea is under control. :)
The pumpkin also rememdies constipation also.
Just a spoonful thou or you get pumpkin for poop and don't be concerned for the color. It will be orangish red.
So long as he does not have an illness, pumpkin works great for diarrhea or constipation. Weird, but it works for both. My puppy is 16 weeks old and she had loose stool. We went through the rounds of expensive vet food and it helped, but when she got off of the vet food and went back to over the counter dog food, she had loose stool again. So I add two spoonfuls of Libby's pumpkin to each feeding. She does great now. It is cheap and effective. I have been gradually lowering the amount of pumpkin and she is doing fine. I will put pumpkin and cheerios in her Kong toy and she loves it!!
Be sure to get the canned pumpkin withOUT spices!! You want plain pumpkin for their tummies!
I use canned pumpkin, and it works great as all the other posts indicate. I feed raw, and I try to include some type of vegetable fiber in each meal. I do oats, chopped veggies in the food processor, and raw carrots. Pumpkin works great when dogs have loose stools or constipated as others have mentioned. The daily fiber seems to help keep the dogs pretty regular!
Wow, I am going to try this. Riley has never had firm stools and they are hard to pick up and keep the yard clean. Pumpkin for him tonight.
Our GD also had mild diarrhea this week. No reason we could think of. I have several cans of pumkin in my pantry-I'll try this. Thanks everyone. I also heard that boiled brown rice will bind them up. Has anyone tried this? I also did not rush him to the vet. He did not seem sick at all. What could have caused this, I wonder.
My puppy's diarrhea also had the pink tinge to it, I think the vet said it was mucous and not something too serious. My cat had that as well when her diarrhea got really bad from her bacterial infection. It looks worse than it is!
Samantha had an ear infection (we were in still in Florida and took her a vet there and started her on medicine) and then developed diaherra with the mucus in it also. I gave her pumkpin, chicken and rice but a full day later vomited it up - undigested. She wouldn't eat her kibble but would eat a cookie so I wasn't too worried. It took 2 days but she is back to normal. I am assuming belly issue has something to due with the ear infection and it was worse than I thought. It is very unnerving while it is going on.

Someone told me that they take the pumpkin, put it in an ice tray and after it is frozen put the cubes in a ziplock and gives it her her Doodle as a frozen treat.
Not that anybody is at this stage, but if it is more serious diarrhea, here is what my holistic vet says.
Stop feeding for 24 to 48 hours. Give water, aloe vera juice, slippery elm, honey water and silver colloids. I make up a batch and feed by syringe.
When starting to feed again, start with liver water and then go to cooked chicken and rice. If anyone wants the proportions, let me know.
I have always bought canned organic pumpkin for dogs from the pet store. I freeze it in her Kongs as she's teething and as well, I freeze it in ice cube trays so she can have her daily dose frozen, which she really enjoys!
