Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

We always keep a really close eye on Dyson so that he doesn't get at and chew any of our stuff. Well, last night he escaped out of his enclosure, jumped up onto the dresser, and got at my husband's eyeglasses. He was probably alone with them for 5 minutes and they are totally ruined :( Even the $500 lenses in them are all scratched up! Of all the things available to him in our room (socks, blankets, slippers, etc) he had to choose the most expensive thing in there. Needless to say the husband was NOT happy. And bad puppy had to sleep in his kennel rather than his blanket beside the bed. What's the worst thing your puppy has chewed?? (I need something so I can tell the husband, "well so and so's puppy chewed up ______, so it's not that bad!"). I just really can't believe he picked the glasses to chew....bad bad puppy!

Melanie, How about door edges, door frame and baseboards at the edges:-)
I have shihtzu and a labradoodle. My labradoodle had got into the act but my shihtzu has started doing these kinds of things when he is left alone in the room even for 5 minutes. He is a darling if he is given the free run of the house...but if he is behind that baby gate then he is trouble. So, he goes in the crate anytime he cannot be left in the house now.
Well imagine this...I have a girlfriend who's doodle got her dentures out of the cup on the bathroom counter while she was in the shower. She heard this crunching/cracking sound outside the shower while she was toweling off and when she pulled the curtain open to see what the source of the sound was her 6 month old doodle was standing there with her upper dental plate hanging out of his mouth and there was about half of it on the floor. She missed 4 days of work waiting on replacements...and her insurance did NOT pay for them. She laughs about it now but things are always funnier in hind sight right?

On another doodle forum someone mentioned their dog literally eating through a few hundred dollars.
Someone in our obedience class told us how their dog ate 200 dollars in cash they had to pay a contractor. They found the money "you know where" a few days later! Almost all of it was in tact. Can yu imagine them picking this money out of the "you know what" and cleaning it up. Hey, who knows where your money has been?
That's why money is often referred to as "filthy lucre." Really...!
At 7 months now, Tully has become a chewer extraordinaire; he LOVES high quality leather objects like shoes, purses, and jackets. We think it's because we never give him rawhide chewies!
We had a yellow lab when we first got married that ATE a sleeping bag, chewed up a box of books we had in storage, and bit into every can in a case of beer we had stored in the same shed. Needless to say the husband was very unhappy.
About 4 hrs ago Max tore a page out of my library book. I got most of it out of his mouth and after drying it taped it back together. I called the library and they said they may be able to repair it, if not I'll have to pay for it, fortunately it's not as expensive as glasses. He's always chewing on something.
I have lost several pairs of expensive prescription glasses to my two puppies. They are just too easy to lay down for :just a minute":Also my daughter's wallet, no money but lots of chewed plastic credit cards. My husband teaches a couple of classes for fun and the puppies ate one student's homework ( thank heavens for computers and backup files). But the worst for my husband was a jump drive that he left in a very silly location and it instantly was "jumped" and chewed to bits. He lost quite a lot of work and was very unhappy.
Over the years of dogs I would say that there are very few things that haven't been teeth tested by our puppies. We once lost a whole set of soccer uniforms that one dog buried, one at a time, they did not show up until spring when their vibrant orange color "bloomed" after a torrential rain. As I write this it is my husband's ties which have become the newest victim of the nine month old. They are hanging in the same place as always and are blocked by a set of french doors rubber banded together and then a doggy gate, but still the little thief sneakss a least one a day. Six more months before I can begin to put things down below shoulder height. I am running out of room to put things. I wish we had a wide shelf running along the walls of the whole house at 4 and 1/2 feet high. i bet you think I am making this up - but I'm Not!
Wow, that's an impressive list! So does it get better once they're over a year??
Ours ate about $80 when my husband left his wallet within reach, he chewed the cover off a book my husband had borrowed from someone else, and he destroyed a pair of my husbands nice leather shoes!! He almost never touches my stuff though - wierd!! He did get my car keys once and put a tooth hole through the remote locking button!! He is much better now and the only thing he touches is anything paper if you leave it within reach - he loves shredding paper!!
I was "dog sitting" for friends once, keeping their golden retriever and lab. The golden loved to stay in the bathroom while I was in the shower and lick the condensation off the walls. (Crazy, I know). Well, while she was licking she found a loose piece of wall paper, got it between her teeth and just started walking backwards, taking most of the wallpaper with her. I was mortified b/c it wasn't even my house! I was mad, but it was hilarious too. Her tail was just a waggin'!
The biggest problem we had was with my children and there bath trash can. My dog ate and pooped out a couple of tampons when we fist got her. Then she threw one up at one time. I now keep there trash on top of the toilet in case the door doesn't get closed.
