Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

I have been doing some research on automatic waterers. It seems that Drinkwell manufactures the best ones. Does anyone have any experience with these? Which model did you get? I like the 360, looks easy to clean and fill, but only has a 1 gallon capacity, that doesn't seem like it would last long???

WOW!!!!!! That's some water bowl!! lol...I have never used this type with any of my pets, but I am thinking now that we have a Lab....we are gonna need A LOT MORE WATER! Thanks for the pictures ladies! I will be looking into this as well, for the future :)
No, they do not help with the drooled water b/c my doodle usually drinks from the bowl part. My cat is the one who drinks from the stream. My cat has her own fountain -Petmate Deluxe(or something like that)- and it stays really clean for a long time as long as my doodle doesnt drink out of it! If my doodle drinks out of it once -it starts sputtering b/c it is low on water.

When I was using plain water bowls -I would have to change the water and clean the bowls daily. It takes longer to clean the Drinkwell but I only clean it around 1.5 - 2 weeks and I dont have to fill it everyday. (I also like it better since I bought that cleaning kit). It is good fountain but certainly has its downfalls. If they made the 360 bigger I would probablly look into it for my doodle.
I would recommend the Buddy Bowl. You are going to have to rinse and fill whatever it is everyday anyway. The buddy bowl is not puppy proof, but it is a huge deterrent to paddling and playing in their water bowl. What I like best for fresh water on demand is called a "licks it". It is a nozzle that attaches to any outside faucet that you can screw a hose onto.

If you have an outside faucet available to your dog a licks it is great. The puppy or dog just walks up and licks the nozzle and they get all the fresh water they want. The water is turned on a small amount and the licks it keeps the water from coming out until the dog's tongue pushes the slightly protruding part over a bit by licking it. I have had the same one for 35 years and it still works fine with no leaking.
I thought about the Buddy Bowl, but Adina said it is hard to open, and with my arthritis, it may be too difficult for me.....
This is the one I have - I have just been using it for my cats on the lower level of our house - Abby has gotten to it a couple of times and really liked it. I didn't get mine from Petco tho - I got it from a Minnesota seller on Ebay - great people to work with... up in Cotton I believe.
I like it - it holds 168 ounces - I like it - the cats drink a lot more water than they used to - the water stays fresh for a long time - and I clean it and change the filter every month or so. If I had this for Abby's use - I would keep it away from the food dish tho so food doesn't get dribbled in and dirty it up faster...

As soon as Abby has full run of the house (which she doesn't have yet) this will be her water source too.
sorry - this is the Drinkwell Platinum - forgot to mention that...
I Just bought a Drinkwell with a 2 gallon water supply, it's not the 360....mine has the recurculating water that is like a waterfall, back into the big bowl part, I think it is the "Big Dog" model...the dodles seem to like it. I have a pool, and I am trying to get them to drink the water in the fountain, and not the pool water.....I am thinking the salty pool water can't be good for them...I just got it today, and they are getting used to it.....
I purchased mine from Dr. Foster's and Smiths for 69.00.
