Hollywood and I passed the Therapy test yesterday in Richmond, VA. YAY!!! I was so proud of her w/ all the distractions going on with all the other dogs. We were there w/ Hokie, what a cutie I might add. I'm so glad things went well. Now, on to the supervised visits!!
Leo and I are being tested on Saturday. I am very nervous about the test. He does everything well except at times he still gets excited with other dogs. This will be our first TDI test. I have read replies to this discussion and will take all the advice with me! Especially to be proud of each thing done well, and to try again if it doesn't work out the first time.
Good luck!!!!!!!! I will wait anxiously to hear how it goes. Since we haven't done the test yet, will you post the 'stations' that they set up. Thanks,
Moses and Havey are both certified. Moses took and passed both the TDI-Therapy Dog International Test [not Therapy Dog Inc .... that is a different group,Therapy Dog International originated in NJ and spread. I do not know where Therapy Dog Inc is ]and he also passed Bright & Beautiful Therapy Dog test. Havey took only Bright & Beautiful and passed. When I see you I can give you info.
Perhaps the people posting about Therapy Dog Inc live in another state.
Hokie and I passed all three observations. Truly a rewarding experience. He seems to enjoy it, does what he needs to do. He did great at a hospital visit, the beds were right at his level! All we have to do now is send in our paperwork and get the card. We are then becoming part of Caring Canines in Richmond, VA. He and I are also going to pursue a Paws to Read certification. I am also looking into visiting an autistic school here in Richmond. I think Hokie would be great with those kids. Thanks for all your support. We will keep you posted. Good luck to everyone taking the test. I think Doodles are great therapy dogs. They definitely get a lot of attention since they are so different.
I have a mini doodle Chloe, she has her GCC but not her therepy cert. yet. I just retired from teaching a month ago and my goal is to also get a PAWS to Read certificate. Reading is my 'thing" and I want it to be Chloe's too! We went to a meeting at the SPCA and they said they could place as many as they could get. Schools are always requesting dogs that could listen to kids read. I see this was posted in March. What's the latest? We're in Richmond too.
I just thought I'd reopen this because it's spring and I think a lot of people will be taking their test. Should bring it up again. My advice is to practice the "leave-it" command a lot. We had trouble with that. Other than that it was the same as the CGC test. My CGC test was held where I do obedience classes and that also made it easy. Fergie knew that we do school there - not a lot of goofing around. The TDI test was at a totally different place where she'd never been. That was harder for her.
