Looking to adopt a doodle in the Bay Area (Northern California) for a loving family

Hi, We're a loving family of two adults and two very well behaved and pet loving girls ages 8 and 10. We live in a wonderful town north of San Francisco with lots of hiking, walking paths, parks and other dog lovers nearby. Our wonderful yellow lab, April died 4 years ago from cancer. She was adopted from a friend who moved away, so we know that adoption / re-homing is a good option for us. We're ready now to welcome a new dog into our home. We're registering with IDOG and I check petfinder.com daily, as well as craigslist. If you have any other ideas or resources though, we'd love to hear them. Thanks so much!

You are doing all the right things. Also check the posts here. I stumbled across my pup somewhat accidentally. I was looking for a young dog, not a newborn. I registered with a local golden retriever rescue. Two sisters had been rescued from a puppy mill, the first one had a small litter of purebred GRs. The other sister had a large litter a couple of weeks later. I saw them on the site daily, and for some unknown reason decided to check into them. Well, turns out they "thought" , maybe it was possible they could be GDs. Well, I took a chance, I committed to adopt one and as luck would have it, they most definately are GDs. Yea me! So, its worth a try to register with a GR rescue, they also get a lot of GDs.
Good luck!
Great idea Chris! Thanks. I've been searching under Golden Retrievers when I check the adoption and shelter sites because there are often mixes like you said. It's a daunting search process though, I must say. You have to stay on top of things and be ready to jump when the time comes.
Thanks again
Erin
